Buying a new Punto 1.2 Active

I bought a new Stilo a bit more than a month ago, and I persuaded my partner to buy a Punto 1.2 Active as well :). So we have ordered it, but I'm wondering what is the general feeling about the Punto. Is it indeed a good and reliable car? Are there any major problems that one should be aware of?

Well i just bought one (Active Sport)!! :D Seems like a youthful, fun car, and alot more attention grabbing than the usual Saxos [xx(] and Fiestas [xx(]

The Punto looks and drives better than most of the competition, but unfortunately reliability and build quality are well below Ford and the Japanese. I've a MK2 Sporting 1.2 16V. Fantastic car, I love it, but I can think of 15 things that went wrong with it in the first two years, and a few of them are serious enough. Engine misfiring seems to be a very common problem, and no-one seems to be able to sort it out - it's all over the forum.

I guess nothing is perfect :). Our shortlist included the Punto and the Citroen C3. Punto felt much nicer when we drove it, smoother and it had better visibility. Plus that since FIAT had a special offer in Switzerland we got it 1500 Frs less (about £600 less) than the C3 with 6 airbags as well instead of 4. Many of my friends and family in Greece have the Punto (first and second generation) and they have all been very happy and they found it very reliable. It's a matter of luck as well isn't it? You just hope that you won't get the "bad" car coming out of the assembly line :).
