(G) Three Questions

1) Can I remove the plastic headrests from a 60S and put some fabric ones in, as I had to stop really fast earlier from 30mph (some idiot pulled out and I had no where to go), and I hit my head hard. If so then where is the fabric trim ID marked on the car??


2) I have an alpine CDplayer, a CDE 9827, it has three preouts, 4V preouts I think, with Red and White ouput cables, what I want is the MK2 SUB mounted in the top of the left hand wheelarch. Is it an active sub? So would it need 12v power, and then the 4v preout?

3) I forgot, wait a min, will remember when I get back in car.

Not sure what the headrests are like exactly on 'S' models. Can you pull them out so there's 2 holes left in the top of the seat? On my sx you could lift them straight out, so if you can on your model, then it should be a straight swap.

the mk2 has its own built in amp. it needs a 12v feed. also needs signal from the elec arial out on ya stereo tha tells it to turn on and off. also the sub does not use pre outs it gets its signal from the normal rear left right wiring wich splits at back of car half going to rear speakers half to the sub

Thanks fishdude, off to buy one now then. But surely they must be some way of altering its level? I'm gonna try with a preout (2 are 4v and the other is for sub control, so I can alter level).


And my headrests are on two poles like most cars, however they don't move, easily, very stiff, and sortof move 1/2" .

remembered what number 3) was;

I need to replace head gasket + rocker gasket (both weeping a bit), and more desperatly the end plate gasket, at no 1 cylinder end, there is quite a dribble going on.

I think the head gasket has to be skimmed, but not sure about rocker or end plate.

4) My drivers seat is looking bad, the fabric isn't worn, just getting stogey and there is a ripple on the right hand wing. Can I swap driver and passenger seats over?? Or better still just the top and bottom cushions, that way the knobs are still in the same place?

well in normal setup you cant alter the amount of sub action. as it just comes on with stereo and then goes off. the sub is only small wich is maybe why they dnt bother giving you the ability of turnig down as then be no point lol

Dozens of mk1's but only 2 were sx and elx's. one had the right blue headrest, but I couldn't get it off, the prongs are metal that go into the seat and the plastic thing above is what the headrests slide up and down on.

Mine has same metal prongs, but headrest doesn't move on them, I assume they will come out with considerable force, fine on a breakers car, but not destroying my seats to get the thing out.

Found a remote control steering wheel too, but no wiring between face plate and stereo.

Does the steering wheel look like this?


The headrests on the S are very secure and hard to get out, i've looked on the SX and it seems they just pop out.

i seen some not so long ago for £40 for the full set front and back seats and the door cards.

Was going to say before i read the last post, can you not just buy sx seats? If you cant get any owt workington way, try Michael Douglas's at carliklse, about 10-20 punto's there im sure some are sx's as i got an electric window there once cos my runner shatter'd. Dunno bowt the end plate put if you get a head skim from somewhere like True grinds in carlilse (they havnt really shut down) for £35 quid then new gasket n do timing belt while ur at it then that just safe guards you. My head gasket keeps showing signs of being gone, 75 sx with about 55,000 on the clock, but i can never quite tell, never gets too hot, but very very slowly uses water but just more than what is common.

Err today it took 2h30mins!! Fricking terrrible traffic and I was 30mins late for my MRI, got really pissed trying to find a non existant parking place, that I would have to pay for anyway, so I planted it on that lovely looking bit of grass on th side!!! They now have 4skid marks all the way accross their beutifull grass bit. HA HA



Tried gettting passenger side headrest out, and did move about an inch, so you are right, it does come out, but is damn hard. Might just buy the whole seat as my drivers one is going soggy anyway.

Yes the steering wheel looks like that, found a few but the plastic that holds the clips in is always damaged so that the front keep falling off. Other prob is there is no wiring? I have looked at loads of puntos over last few weeks, and all the ones with remote steering wheel have no wiring in the column?? So how do they work then???

I also want that bit of centre console trim, but the only ones I have found have been autos, so the box maybe different.


Also on the look out for a 6speed box in good W/order, as my 5speed is nearly dead, the gears all slap to one end of the box when changing up.And there is next to no synchro on 2nd.

HELL I GIVE UP< SHOVE MY PUNTO WHERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE, I WANT A SAAB 9000 2.3t CSE (eco power).

The centre consoles were fitted to Sporting, ELX and GT models i believe. They also put them in the SX's towards the end (1999 onwards?), hence one being in mine. Probably an over-run of stock and just before the mark 1 came out.

When i'm at home later i'll have a look at the wiring and take some piccys although it looks like its built into the blue plugs? 323 plug. Are the cables avaliable over the internet?
