Punto Dead??

I'm having a real bad time with my punto........

Bought a mk1 1.1 55s 4 months ago,
  • 2 weeks after had an oil leak from cover gasket and oil filter, replaced and oil changed.....
  • Then had a flat tyre found it was the space between the rim and tyre that needed 'filling' had that fixed and tyre changed ....
  • Had an hole in my exhaust (front part 'link pipe' with the spring) done a tempopary repair on that with sealant...
  • Hearing a creaking groaning noise noise when the handbrake is on so think it needs adjusting, (locking point is quite high)
  • Hearing a rattle from exhaust when engine is started maybe brackets?
  • Went out monday morning and found the same bloody wheel from before COMPLETELY dead! so now i have the 'saver wheel' on (by the way i cant find a normal wheel ANYWHERE!!! unless £40 from fiat?!
  • Now i'm hearing a high pitched whine from the engine bay when i rev the car in 1st gear (maybe cambelt or tensioner?)
  • Rear wiper motor completely dead!

I'm seriously debating cutting my losses and buggering my punto off wish i never had to because despite these problems it is my first car and i love it... but any more problems and im gonna crack!!!

If anyone one that knows their way around a punto can lend me any advice or any engineers that can get to the birmingham area to fix these problems for me i'd be grateful (for a fee of course , dont wanna take a garage because theyd have a field day on me!!! i'm a noob!!

Re: Punto Dead??

Not exactly 'dead' is it,just annoying things, lets face it the cars 8-10 years old?

Pattern exhausts are cheap as chips & get wheel from scrappy as 'dude' said.

Rear wiper...not legal requirment, just pick one up when you come across one cheap enough.

High pitched whine, get someone more knowledagble to listen to it.

Adjust handbrake & dont worry bout creaking noise (as dude said) my car does that every morning.

Rocker gasket leak...yeah so is mine,i'll get round to it one day

Re: Punto Dead??

If postage wasn't so expensive I'd sell you a new one I got in the shed!

Forget scrappy for exhaust go to local autoparts shop/warehouse,honestly they are cheap.I got full length front to back for mondeo for £37 & 2 years on it's still perfect.Just got to look in right places mate

Reason they aint in scrappies is cause they are such good cars

Re: Punto Dead??

that front pipe with that stupid flexy bit of poo in it cost me £24 inc VAT from a local auto shop. The bolt and gasket kit (both ends) cost another £2.19 in VAT.
You can fit it yourself really easily, just jack front end of car (might not even need to) and unbolt, bolt new one in, Watch out for rusty bolts on the cat and manifold, if they won't budge, then leave some GT85 or plus gas on it overnight, that should free em up,

my rocker gasket is weeping too, as is head gask, and end plate gasket

Re: Punto Dead??

As you're in Birmingham, give Paul at Motor-Mech a call. His number is 01216339823 (He has moved premises recently, and the website has the old number on). He is an italian car specialist, and he does LOADS of Coupes. He's very good value for money, and will tell you what needs doing at what doesn't. I've used him for everything on my Coupe for the last 2.5 years, and I'd recommend him.

Re: Punto Dead??

most scrap yards destroy the wheels or just throw them in massive skip that is taken away every now and then, as most aren't round after a crash. Same with trims, have been looking for a new trim for front right wheel. GF sort of drove onto a kerb at speed, needed new tyre and wheel, both easy to do, but trim is proiving hard, if you look in my photo you can see the crack in it.
