Should I be worried...

Hello All,

Quick question - When the car is in neutral and the clutch pedal is not pressed I hear a kind of rubbing sound coming from the left hand side of the car. I assume its the clutch... When I press the clutch pedal in, the noise disappears... I've heard this could be a thrust bearing but what is that? And should I have it looked at/or is it normal??

Cheers!

It might be nothing to worry about - mine makes a sort of rumbling sound when in neutral with the clutch out, which I'm reliably informed is the gearbox input shaft bearing. It's highly unlikely to ever give you any problems, mine has done this since I fitted the gearbox 2 years and 17000 miles ago and its no noisier and still works fine.

Could be a worn clutch release bearing...

I had a 96, N reg for 3 years and it always did the same as your Punto, even after a new clutch was fitted a year into my ownership.

Re: Should I be worried...

Is it a big job to replace this bearing? Does the whole clutch have to be taken out???
