I found myself with a Ford 70hp Escort TD ready for scrap, and a 1994 Mk1 Punto without a radio.

As a non-smoker I didn't need the ashtray below the radio slot, so I removed it along with the cigar lighter. This leaves a live 12v wire ready for the radio.

I made a simple cradle to take the very large squarish Ford 3000 radio, it slopes down and forward towards the central lower heater outlet, and is screwed to the plastic scuttle with self-tapping screws. The radio just pushes into the cradle, held only by the downward slope.

I wired it so it works even without the key in the ignition, but running an additional accessory wire live at key position 1 will enable it to be isolated without the key because the Ford radio has two feed wires, one for accessory and one for constant live.

These radios are not to be laughed at, I find I can get more stations here in Las Negras with this setup than I can get with my new Jeep which has a vastly more costly radio, that I class as next to useless. No marks Mr.Chrysler!

A word of caution however, don't start unless you already know the radio code!
