Technical Fuel pump fix

Technical Fuel pump fix

Two little additions to my post on petrol pump stub pipe repair.

The copper insert pipe needs to be cut off at a 45 degree angle at one end, so that when pushed right into the stub there is still a passage right through for the petrol. Without this the passage will be blocked off completely.

I reinforced the break area by making a little galvanised sheet metal cup, bending it around the broken area, and filling it with 24 hour araldite after thoroughly cleaning and scratching the plastic to get as good adherence as possible.

The [bad] snaps show the feed and return pipes and stubs, I reinforced the return as well as the feed to head off any further trouble. I felt that the original problem was caused by the petrol pipes being too short during manufacture and were stressing the stubs on the pump from new.

This repair has 10 years service behind it and I have never felt the car to be short of petrol, and it has never leaked since.
