Well its MOT time for our 1995 2dr Punto 55s. We thought it had 2 months left, but it didn't - 5 days. I looked underneath and it seems really solid except for the NS rear floor pan area, which is rotten. Are there panels for this?
Local mechanic says he can repair it, and providing it doesn't cost too much or fail on any other major issues tomorrow, we will probably get it done.
Everyone says scrap it, and when are you getting her a new car, but I see it as a challenge - how long can a punto mk1 keep going? Its done the wife 11 years so far. It runs great and is cheap as chips on fuel.
If she refuses to have it repaired, is anyone interested in the car? Or is it destined for FIAT heaven?
Cheers,
Ben

in my mind if it costs less than £200 to get a years mot, it's money well spent, (y)
as it'd be only too easy for any budget replacement car to need MORE spending, than that. you KNOW all about YOUR punto.;)

I don't think I have ever seen replacement floor panels, not to say they don't exist but I not seen them.

But depends how bad and how big and area and where exactly its rusty. I know you can get sills, and there is replacement rear jacking point bits but don't recall ever seeing complete floor panels, but thats not hugely surprising as its a big big panel.

Depending on the amount that needs replacing generally it would be fixed with patches just made from sheet metal. Cut a bit out, weld a bit in and repeat til all the rot is gone.

I hope its not too bad and savable, let us know who you get on.

I see you are in Buxton. We are in Glossop!

Had its MOT this morning and unsurprisingly it failed. Wants about 100 quid to repair the rear floor and a trailing arm which has excessive play.
Decided to get it done, do the arm myself and get floor repaired. Not too bad for a 21 yr old punto I suppose. My wife is still wanting a newer car, so it may be off to a new home soon...

Nah, keep the car and get a newer wife: you don't need that sort of negativity in your life, lol! ;)

It passed an MOT in the end and is back on the road for now...
