The car is a 1998 Punto S 60 1242cc, I believe it uses a single point fuel injection system.
The car had been running fine then had a period of 2 weeks "rest" when the rear exhausted system feel down onto ground. After repair started up first time, did test run for few miles and all fine.
This morning a bit frosty and difficult to start, then ran VERY rough and could hardly get along the road without kangaroing and stalling. Injection Systen Malfunction warning light was on all the time.
Took off air filter assembly, disconnected fuel feed pipe and confirmed good flow of fuel as soon as ignition switched on.
Then something very strange happened, I started it up again (without air filter) after a few seconds of running rough, then there wasquite a load pop/bang from the engine compartment (I was inside the car at this time) and the engine started to run smoothly and the Injection warning light went off. It ran for several minute like this and it would even idle without my foot on accelerator pedal. Then with no warning it returned to rough running and stalled. Since then it has only run rough, VERY rough, injection warning light back on all the time.
Have wiggled all wires going to injector assembly but now not sure what to do, any ideas?:bang:
Regards

Edit
Solved, tried taking HT leads off to test effect, second one I tried had no effect, looked at related coil and LT plug had come out, cannot understand why I had not noticed it.
Yet again it has taught me that warning messages eg Injection Malfunction light, are not always directly linked to the real problem.
