Re: Petrol Consumption

440km = about 250 miles. That's all I get from mine.

BTW, the 55 is a 1108cc engine, i.e. 1.1, not a 1.2

You shoeld avoid revving over about 3krpm, and no heavy acceleration/ braking should cure your problem. All about anticipating when you will need to stop/ start. Town driving also messes up the MPG, so stick to main roads.

Re: Petrol Consumption

Jamie, you have had a million cinqs with that engine, the punto is only slightly bigger/heavier, would you have ever come close to 25mpg?? Maybe I am over-estimating the engine.

Re: Petrol Consumption

make sure your tyres are pumped up properly.

low pressure tyres can drop fuel consumption from 35mpg to as little as 20mph if your not carefull.

your tyres should be between 30 and 32psi front and rear (dependant on load).

higher the psi the higher your mpg.

I run 33psi all day long.

...blame it on the cross-posting for the confusion

As for my Punto 1.2 16v (yr 2000) I can get slightly over 100 miles to every quarter of tank and according to the onboard trip computer, it's about 45mpg - but that's only town driving though, I hardly do any motorway driving with this car.

Re: Petrol Consumption

100km = 62 miles
7 litres = 1.5 gallons

= 42 mpg. It's possible, likely brand new it would do that, but like I said I drive carefully to keep fuel consumption down and never got close to that in mine.

P.S. Why start 2 threads

Cool Re: Petrol Consumption

Over my Punto's 4.5 years with me and 60k miles I averaged 50mpg. It's down to how you look after your car, how you drive, where and when. A fiar bit of that was when I commuted 25 miles on main roads and cross country, rarely stopping, and averaging in the low 30's (mph). Tyres pumped up correctly, well serviced, windows usually closed etc... It was noticable when I did some town driving that it would be down a few mpg when I filled up. I used to be able to get 450-500 miles (sometimes over 500!) out of a tank, but that's a Mk2 which has a 47 litre tank (I think I used to put in abotu 44-45 litres for those kind of distances). A big economy thing is to drive smothly.

Re: Petrol Consumption

mk2's do 50mpg easily - mine does too. Pretty sure you won't get a 55 mk1 up to that though!
