engine won't turn off even when key removed. Checked fuseboxes for damp but ok. could it be fuel cutoff solenoid, or could ignition itself need wd40?
Help

Sorry folks it's Punto 1.7 diesel van '96. I'm stalling it to stop at the moment. Any ideas out there?
Cheers

Never did one on a Punto, easy on old Bosch pumps anyway, As far as I remember it was a 24mm solenoid and 8mm wire contact. Just screw out old and in new.

Engine on punto in question is really down on power and very sluggish. Could this be a fuel pump issue (also related to engine not switching off), or are there other possibilities to check aswell? Power loss and engine not turning off coincided. Due to the age of the vehicle and the price of replacing a pump(plus new timing belt obviously) it may not be financially worthwhile. Any serious advice appreciated as I really want to keep this little gem going. It's done 110,00 but has had regular oil and filter changes.
Many Thanks

Did you locate the cut off solenoid on the pump? That could be your problem! Take it off and clean/replace.Very little point in posting here unless you take some of the advice given and report back. Things don't get fixed by posting the problem!, Again I suggest you locate the cut off solenoid on the pump and remove it. Put up a picture if you're not sure and you will get help, nobody will bite you for asking for directions.

Hi there and Happy New year to you all. I've managed to locate the fuel cut off solenoid and I am led to believe that it is situated behind the flat code control unit (ccu) at rear and below pump. Hope you get the image, as I struggled to upload it (still getting to grips with things!) I've put it on my avatar aswell, but this does not enlarge.
Apparently if you break open the ccu access can be gained to the solenoid. The live wire off the 3 pin plug to the ccu is soldered direct to the new solenoid whilst the other two are taped up. The large plug on the code box next to steering column under dashboard is now disconnected. Thus van stops and starts but no immo, which I'm not bothered about.
All this sounds like a doddle but the ccu is in a virtually inaccessible position, being partially covered by an engine mount (I think Fiat built the vehicle around it!)
Has anyone done this mod? I've been quoted £250-300. Can't, won't pay this so I've got to do it on my own. Is there a step by step on it on the forum that I've missed? Any help greatly appreciated.
Ciao

Re previous thread. Apparently the location of the fuel cut off solenoid is not as I was led to believe. It is not situated behind the immobilisor (see previous image). I've just been told that it is underneath a steel plate cover on top of the fuel pump. I was quoted £250 for the work, which entailed removing the pump etc. Van is worth v.little so I may scrap it. Finally would I be able to grind this plate off to gain access. If I'm going to scrap it I might as well have a go first. Sorry for any confusion. Many thanks. Ciao

Take a pic of the WHOLE pump. better still a few pics, since I haven't one in front of me it's hard to tell from one picture, Should be able to do something without removing the whole pump. This is the best I can do at thee moment, a pic from a well known manual!
