(G) viewed a punto gt today

went to see a punto gt today and theres a couple of problems with it the first one is that the power steering is leaking fluid been told it might need a new pump? and the other is that the cam gasket is leaking abit so needs a new gasket.i would have to drive it 1 hour to get home aswell.

cam cover gasket is common.

easy and cheap to replace. also use nylock nuts to prevent it from happening again.

the PAS steering leak, well all depends if it is the pump.

i've had to replace pipes on my GT, never a pump. i cant see it being the pump, you need to check further.

well they said when they fill the reservior up for the steering it works fine then once the fluid as leaked out its obviously stops workin again.could be a leaking pipe
do you think it would be safe to drive back with the oil leak? they said its not that bad.

yes, but disconnect the pipe from the pump to the rack. this prevents air being forced into the rack, possibly causing more damage.

there are 3 pipes in the system, between the reservoir, pump and rack.
