door handle or lock problem

hi can any one help as i have to mot the car this week and this could cause me problems !!! some times i go to open the drivers door on the car i cant open the door i pull the handle but nothing happens if you do it a few times it does open eventually ! my car is a 1994 punto sx 5 door that has central locking.
