Hi!

I have a problem with my car (Fiat Punto: Details @ the bottom). The problem is that it will not start, or start for a short time. For a long time I have searched online and through out this forum for answers.

Let me recap what happened these last few months. I few months ago, I had to change the engine gasket and in the process I serviced the engine block with a new gasket kit & oilseals, new radiator, new belts, new sparking plugs and wires. In the process I broke a fuel injector (they are so fragile) and I bought a second hand one from a local scrap yard.

After I assambled the whole engine back (with the help of a friend of mine who happens to be an auto mechanic), the engine ran smootley for a while until a few days later, the injector light started comming on for a while, and the engine stuttered. I thought that the fuel injector that I replaced might be faulty so I searched online on possible ways to check fuel injectors and I used the doctors method (listening to the injector by the use of a long screw driver). I found out that when the light was on, the injectors of cylinders 1 & 4 were not working. I swapped these injectors with the working ones from 2 & 3 and checked again during the problem with the new injectors of 1 & 4 (that previously were connected to 2 & 3) now not working.

Puzzeled by this I took it to my friend who has an auto computer and connected to the ecu (after some difficulty because my ecu was not listed under the same specs of my car in the auto programm) and the code that emerged pointed to the coil of 1 & 4. I had my doubts that the fault was emerging from the coil because i tested the spark plugs by a spark plug tester and all seemed to work fine. But just in case a new coil was fitted. We weren't sure that the problem was solved since it appeared occasionely. When it reappeared, my friend advised me to wait for the problem to deteriorate because it is difficult to detect the sorce.

After driving it, the problem worsened to the extent that now the car will not start. I rechecked that the timing belt (which was still in place), checked for loose wires (and I have connectivity of both coils and the fuel injectors from the ecu plug to the battery), which none appeared. I also checked the resiFstance of the coils and rechecked with a spark plug testor.I rechecked the fuel injectors and all of them seem not to be working.

Me and my friend think that the ecu is faulty and are currently looking for an other one since the ecu is sealed shut and can not be opened. When i was asking for an other ecu, i was told that it is highly unlikely that the ecu is the problem.

As I already said, the car is currently garaged. I also left the ecu without power for more than a week so that it could reset and when I connected the battery, all the indicator lights lit up without flashing. When I disconnected and reconnected, no lights lit up.

What do you think?
Are there some sensors that I can check in the mean time?

Yes i think the sound is similar.

But i concluded that it was due to the fact that injectors 1 & 4 were not injecting fuel and thus half engine power.
Last test that I made was that I checked for fuel past the injectors and there seems nothing comming.

As I already said, I have had recently serviced the engine with the help of an auto mechanic.

Sounds a bit like the ht leads are arcing out on the heads some where.

Have closer inspection in the dark with no lights. Look for flashes
