all belts tensioners water pump changed 1 year ago
fixed second gear on gearbox + syncro
new turbo
ceramic clutch

he will give a few spare parts with it
4 alu 15 wheels, turbo, 2 heads, fuel pump...

engine+gearbox are removed from car so is most of interior

worth to buy as a project?
all the parts are there just need to put it together
mhm

as with most mk1's its whether it has rot thats the most important thing really. The engines are pretty strong, they can be a nightmare to work on compared to a FIRE engined punto just frmo an accessing stuff point of view but if you like the mk1 and have a chance at a decent GT I say go for it.

Well if its cheap enough go for it - you can always rebuild one of the spare heads and fit it before it goes in the car. You can have a look inside the bottom end as well when the head is off. The other thing i would check very carefully is the exhaust manifold, the factory cast manifolds crack - more a matter of when rather than if. They can be repaired by someone good at welding, welded cast is a bit of a fine art so I'm told.

End of the day a GT in bits cannot be worth much - decent running and MOT'd GTs still are not fetching big money yet - there was a yellow abarth kitted stock GT on ebay the other day that went for 1400, which is alot for a GT really in the current market. So I say yes there is no reason you shouldn't go for it, but really you should be playing very little. End of the day with it in bits you are just taking the word of the guy that its not fubar'd so there is risk here but there is also opportunity of very nice car for very little money (just lots of effort on your part to build it lol)

here we go

well it doesn't look particularly bad - but nor does it look rot free on the floor, its so hard to say without actually being there to prod about though.

Few things to consider i suppose is is the whole thing there, does the shell and engine match the V5, check its not an insurance writeoff or anything, do you have somewhere to rebuild it, do you have time (this is a big project), does it make financial sense.

If I am honest and it was me, I'd prob leave it and wait for a decent runner to come up. That car is far from undoable though so if you want a project then certainly go for it but bear in mind you will end up spending more money than waiting for a decent car thats complete and on the road, and alot more effort as well. I'd not really be paying much more than scrap value for that, I'd be at £200 tops myself. Add all the parts you end up buying to build it and you are going up into a few thousand at least before any painting etc. Whereas you can wait and get a running car that needs a bit of tlc but is a good car for about 800-1000. 1500-2000 will get you a really nice one. How long prices stay lke that is anyones guess, they must at some point start getting more pricey

this is how we do it

interior and everything body wise is done, just need to put engine +gearbox in and connect everything

but there is one little setback
seller told me current head on engine got bad teflons and is drinking like 1l of oil every 1000km, he gave me another two good spare heads and engines, now my question is, is it easier to change head now when engine is out as opposed to when it is in car or is it same ****, also can head gasket be re used as it is fairly new

everything is easier out the car on a GT. Manifolds are nigh on impossible to get off (or back on) in the car. The waterpump is very hard in the car too, have to drop that side of the engine to do it and then its still tight. Alternator is a bitch to get out too... You really want to try and change as much as you can or at the very least confirm it works before you stick it in. Good practice states new HG, not like its loads of money but do use a decent one and not an ebay/fai bargain. Get an actual genuine HG or something like a spesso, rest of them if you replace more can be cheapy ones but get a good HG.

only thing that "needs" changing is whole head, problem is as engine is connected to gearbox i had no place to store it as its to heavy so had to move it to some other guy, i was thinking of putting engine in the car and when car is working i would swap heads, unless it is rly harder to do it once in car

well the manifolds share bolts, they both need undoing - all that working on FIRE engined puntos and being able to access everything - ignore that, it is not the case on a GT.

And all i am saying it try check stuff is ok - if you taking head off you need to take the belts off so you could replace tensioners, whip out the waterpump and check the blades are intact, feel everything that turns around for grindy bearings and the like. A few hours now could save you hours and days of hassle down the line. If i were you at this point, even if i had bought it off my best friend i would be doing all that just incase cause i know how much of an arse most things are to get at once the engine is in.

I'm sure the HG is doable in the car but really i promise you will be most angry with yourself for not doing it first if you whack it in now and do it after.
