Looking for a bit of help , I don't seem to be getting any buzzing from the fuel pump when I first turn on the ignition , i am sure it used to , it starts up and runs ok from cold but I have had a few times where it's a struggle to start when it's warm , I replaced the pump a few years ago after a new tank . Thanks Steve

steve ive owned 10 x gt's and only one had the noisy fuel pump. found out it was a higher flow Walbro item where the stock pump is silent.#
i think yours is fine - unless youve got running issues to check out.

forgot to add... struggling to start from warm could be worth swaping the fuel pressure regulator on the end of the fuel rail- an easy job. it might be losing pressure slightly meaning it takes longer to crank to regain pressure.....certainly easier to start with that before removing and replacing fuel pumps.

thanks for the reply , the car runs spot on with no issues , boosts up and runs smooth , , I will check the pressure regulator , as it only occurs when the car is warm and is left for say 10 mins then try and start it again , it cranks quite a few turns before starting or if I turn the ignition off and back on it starts as soon as the key is turned .
would I be able to see if the regulator was leaking , or smell petrol ?
Also could I loose pressure from a faulty fuel filter next to the tank , was going to put a new one on .

I have removed the inspection cover above under the rear seat and the fuel pump doesn't make any noise after turning on the ignition but buzzes when the car starts . Looked at the manual and it says the fuel pump should prime when the ignition is turned on without the engine being started ?
Wow 10 gts is it a record, I have had this one for about 12 years , no problems apart from the fuel tank falling apart .

yep. 1 x GT1 and 9 x GT3's. first car was a GT1 owned from new for 4 years then moved away from fiat in 2000. came back in 2008 by buying an orange GT3 plus ive bought and sold a few then settled on the current grey one since 2009.

two things let them down, one is the thin metal fiat used thus rust is always a threat and then poor feel to the brakes and thats on all 10 ive driven.

there is a test for a leaky regulator. remove the vacuum hose from it as the engine idles. just watch the nozzle for a good 5 to 10 mins cos it might be slow to leak but then leaks fuel straight along the vac line into the inlet.

easy job to replace it. this is where i would concentrate before dicking around with the fuel pump.

i would like to hear more if you dont mind

nice one will try the test with pipe on the regulator and let you know ??, can you still get them from the dealer or is it an eBay search ?
My gt has mostly been a second car so it hasn't had much use , it was stored for nearly 5 years after my son was born , now he loves coming to shows in it , going to Stanford hall and probably the Stafford one Italian classics to give it a good run .thanks ?

tried the test with the pipe removed from the fuel regulator and I didn't get any fuel leaking out , had a diagnostic test and that showed no fault codes , so I must think it's a prob is with the pump ?
Priced a fuel pump up from the local fiat dealer £422.25 ha ha , I can get one for around £110 on eBay ??

420 squid? whahaha
did you tell them car is only 20 years old?

So I fitted a new fuel filter and still the same , changed relays on inner wing , no priming of the pump , took the pipe off the the tank end of the filter and turned on the iginition and no fuel pumped out so I presume it's the pump right ?
Reading in the data manual it says the pump is operated directly by the ecu and operates for about 15 seconds whenever the ignition is turned on without the engine being started ???

thanks for the reply , the car does start ok and run from cold , just had a few probs starting when it is warm , that's when I noticed the pump not priming .
Going to order a a new pump tmoz ??

so it only doesn't prime when hot then? You tried the same when its cold to see if it primes? The only thing that worries me about suspecting the pump is if it stops working properly when hot then it wouldn't just be starting - it would get hot when running and you would get running issues - or you'd expect that. Also when the car is hot and you stop yes the engine stays hot for ages but if you got lots of fuel in the tank then the actual pump will cool really quickly - afterall the main reason pumps are fitted inside tanks these days is to keep them cooler.

I thinking there could be some other issue going on here - i'm not sure what exactly but i am not convinced this is a poorly pump causing this.... If you swap it though you will know for sure i suppose. Just make sure you fit a good quality pump and not some cheap nasty chinese knock-off one.

yeah it doesn't prime from cold either , but starts easier , the pump I have seen is a Delphi one £110 , not sure of origin of manufacture , hope it cures it ??
