Hi everyone, looking to sell my '99 mk1 1.2 60s.
I have used this forum for some fixes and help over the years of owning her but now it looks as if I will be getting a vw passat in the next couple of days so I need her gone.
Obviously she has good and some bad points, but I feel she's in too much of a good, useable condition to think about scrapping and the like. Have not put on ebay or anything as I thought here would be the best place to advertise first in hope that someone who loves the cars can take her on.
I've owned her for about 5 years now and has just ticked over 84k. I believe I bought her at around 45k. The car has been very reliable for me, literally starting on first turn of the key all bar 2 exceptions in the year we had a -5 degree winter (even then she started on the second turn).
Head gasket went in the first year (typical) and so a brand new one sorted out. New break pads fitted 2-3 years ago. A brand new clutch was fitted about 3 years ago. More recently I have fitted an entire new exhaust system as the old one had corroded away. A few other small things have been done here and there but can't think of them off the top of my head.
The main problem she has at the moment is the drivers side radius arm (or so I am told). There is a knocking/clunking noise when going over bumps. Previous MOT told me that the rubber bush had deteriorated so I bought a radius arm repair kit and me and my dad attempted to fix but to no avail, it was just a bit too difficult for us with limited tools. However, it was only an advisory but it needs to be sorted soon. I still have the repair kit to go with the car and someone with a bit more knowledge may be able to make an easy fix of it.
When in second gear, low revs she seems a little flat and takes a moment before power kicks in. Had this a few years ago and turned out to be the spark plugs, it may be this again.
Also needs new rocker cover according to my dad, haven't gotten round to buying one yet.
I have used the car for commuting a few miles to work during the week and festivals during the summer. She took me all the way to Germany a few years ago without a hiccup. Bodywork is in great condition, paint is a bit faded but will be able to buff her up in the next few days before selling. Tyres are good, all have been replaced within the year. No service history, just MOTs and receipts of parts.

*Edit* Fuel consumption has always been great. A full tanks gets 400 miles with good driving.
