Another problem - 'rusty' water

My Punto was acting a little strange the other day, seeming a bit sluggish and even cut out on me. When I got home I opened the bonnet, took the water cap off and as the water boiled over it was a rusty red colour. I left the car overnight and filled it back up with water and it doesn't seem as bad now. Does anyone know what could have caused this? I've heard it could be the coolant but not sure why it would be. Another thing Ive noticed recently is that when I press the accelerator there is sometimes a running water sound. Is this related? I've recently (about 1-2 month back) had the head gasket gone after it went.

Re: Another problem - 'rusty' water

rusty red water could be oil getting into the coolant from blown headgasket but you have had that done. also the antifreeze may have been red soo in that case ok.

the rushing water noise sound like you have air in your system and may need bleeding this may have caused the over heat.

the symptons you do say can suggest headgasket but your has just been done. soo if it was that then least they should r do it for free. do you know if the head was skimmed when theyt done it ?

Yes it was skimmed, they sent it to an engineer to do it as they couldn't do it in the garage themselves.
