Replacing Starter Motor - Tips?

My starter motor seized and despite all efforts to get round it, its come to a replacement.

Any tips or guides to go about doing it?

I know its on the tramsmission housing behind the battery, but is there a knack to getting to it?

Thanks
Len

Yes............use axle stands!

Easy to change, just disconnect battery first.

Re: Replacing Starter Motor - Tips?

No just 2 bolts (some models have 3) & probably easier to disconnect wiring from solenoid with starter unbolted so you can access the 10 & 13mm bolts better.Remember axle stands-safety nag nag
Local garage will probably charge you half hour labour (no more than this!) if your not 100% certain & put it up on a proper ramp.

Re: Replacing Starter Motor - Tips?

I did it!

Managed to do it all without getting under the car too...

Straight swap although there were 3 bolts to undo. It was also slightly further behind the engine block than i expected after reading the haynes manual.

Anyway, job done and starts first time, every time

Re: Replacing Starter Motor - Tips?

Lol. That guy must be bored.

imo the haynes manual is good for some things (changing brake pads etc), but just not so good for others (starter motor replacement etc). It is a bit vague in places but is good as reference material.
