| Check OK | Passed MOT, but it shouldn't have I took the Punto in for its MOT today, and it passed and i mentioned if they could tighten the handbrake as it barly worked before. Anyway on the way home there was a constant knocking noise on the rear right, and was very worrying. I thought it might be the bushes so i shook the wheels hard and the one is very wobbly (like a bike wheel if it becomes unalligned). Is this the bushes on the rear of the tyres, although it didnt do it before. Could it be because it was lifted onto the ramps. How much would new rear bushes cost if this is the case, for a 1999 V Fiat Punto SX mk1?

Can a bearing really make that difference?

| Re: Passed MOT, but it shouldn't have Ok I think that if the noise wasnt there before the mot and it was after then either the repair was faulty or the mot has damaged the car by jacking up. Rear subframe bushes dont cause this problem of a loose wheel feeling. Rear radius arms do but when the weight is on the car then its difficult to get the play you describe. Short answer is as the brakes were inspected and adjusted then IS THE WHEEL TIGHT?

| Re: Passed MOT, but it shouldn't have I recently had to replace my rear left radius arm, apparently it's a common fault with MK1 Puntos... I had exactly the same problem... Since my Punto's six months(ish) older than yours and yours has a bit more mileage to its name it may be worth looking into it... As for passing its MOT... some let you get away with murder some follow the book to the letter... either way you wouldn't want your wheel passing you on the road so I'd ask them what they're playing at!

| Check OK | Re: Passed MOT, but it shouldn't have Had the invoice today and was £296.04 This was for 140.00 labour costs, and the rest for the rear suspension arms, brakes, hand brake and rear number plate light. Recap: The car passed its MOT, but shouldnt have due to excessive amount of travel sideways on the rear wheel.

| Re: Passed MOT, but it shouldn't have Rear radius arm bearings wearing isnt actually as dangerous as a wheel bearing. it isnt likely that it would just fall off. it just makes loads of cracking sounds when you hit certain bumps. im not sure how strict they are with trailing arms anyways. my mk1 punto passed an mot with the same problem.
