Exclamation Squeeling brakes, urgent

I drive a 200o plate W reg 1.2 8v elx punto. My brakes recently needed doing. So off i went to charlie browns. This is when the problems started. I got charged 134 pounds for new disk brakes and pads and the rear ones cleaning up and stuff. From then on i had a squeeling noise. The noise actually only happens on the left tyre when i turn right. When i turn left it shuts up. So i went back down. They said to leave it til it gets worse, which cud take up to 3 months. So i went to kwik fit, who own charlie browns. They stripped them down for me, cleaned them up again and put them on saying there was alot of dust on them. Not sooner had i left the garage did they start. I gave them a week. Went to charlie browns and demanded new ones on. They have put me new brake pads on which until now have been fine. The quietness lasted 2 weeks unfortunetly and it is squeeling again. I dont no what to do about it, they say they wont change the actually disks as there fine and brand new everything now twice over. the noise wasnt there before, is constant when ever i turn right, is getting worse and pads have already been replaced. If anyone could help me on this, it would be grate,

What anti-squeel system does the punto use? Springs or shims?

Re: Squeeling brakes, urgent

Nooooo! On the outside of the pad (the bit that doesn't touch the disc),just put thin smear over back especially the (inner pad) bit that is pushed by the caliper piston. Also do the ends (hook shaped bits at end) as these slide in the caliper, its alsways worthwhile scraping the dust/crap of the part of the caliper that the pads slide back & foward on.
I cant believe the garage hasn't done this already, standard practice!

Bent back the backplate while your there, its the inner shield plate on the inner side of the disc at the bottom.

Unhappy Re: Squeeling brakes, urgent

Done that also now and it hasnt made a bit of difference. Could it be the pads, there just standard ones as far as i no. Should i buy some Fiat pads especially for the punto? Could that work? dunno what else to try. Thanks

Re: Squeeling brakes, urgent

if it only happens when you turn right, sounds like it could be a bearing or cv joint to me?

Re: Squeeling brakes, urgent

I've been told it defo isnt a wheel bearing. How would you check to see if its the cv joint? All my bush's on the front are worn and i have been told to replace them. Could this be a factor in it?

Talking Re: Squeeling brakes, urgent

hi
I had same problem with my punto new discs, pads etc. after this work was done car would squeal whenever i turned right, and when i,m 10 minutes into a journey. after researching this i discovered that by chamfering the pads( grinding the edge of the new pads) this would bed them in early, with my new found knowledge i went back to kwikfit and asked them if this had been done to the pads, they assured me this had been done. The manager took a look and ressured me that everthing was OK. One week later i took the car back to kwikfit and demanded that they chamfer the pads while i watched, realising that this customer wasn,t a pushover they duly obliged. Since the pads has been chamfered, NO MORE SQUEELING

Re: Squeeling brakes, urgent

I think what it comes down to is.....Do not pay the chimps at quick fit to do anything, they are way over priced and never do a good job.

Re: Squeeling brakes, urgent

Rear brake shoes yeah but not front pads there should be no reason to do this unless, wrong pads, cheap pads, discs are knackered.
New pads shouldnt need this (a few hundred yards in 2nd gear with brakes on is enough to bed them in) it is routine to hammer off surface rust around edge of discs..did they do this?
