What tyres?

Not happy with present tyres at all. Seem to get wheel spin far too easily. Kingspan, made in China. I wonder what you guys recommend; Bridgestone? BF Goodrich? etc. For a mark 1 1.2 8v.

Re: What tyres?

Reduce your throttle opening to reduce wheel spin. However the softest tyre which gives the best grip is Yokohama. They dont last long but they are a superb tyre grip wise.

Re: What tyres?

I got a set of 185/60r14 Pirelli P6000's on my Punto 60, they seem to grip really well, and have quite a nice (read: sporty) tread pattern...

Cool Re: What tyres?

Having a less powerful engine doesn't mean the car wont go round corners. Hard tyres mean less grip, so to increase grip get softer tyres. They'll wear out faster though. Also, reducing the tyre pressure can help grip, but it means they'll wear out at the edges faster, and increase the fuel consumption.

A 1.2 8v doesn't need fantastic tyres, you know, rated for 180mph, but does need tyres that are rated for 118mph or whatever the common one is. It means that if you do take it above the motorway limit the tyre is going to be okay.

My suggestions to look for: Michelin, Avon, Pirelli.

Re: What tyres?

Nice post gav.

I'd still recommend getting premium tyres, unless you drive like a granny.

Re: What tyres?

I have Toyo Racing rated, you could go with Toyo Proxies, mine are very very soft (I think more than Yokohoma) but they are excellent.

The Proxies are harder than the Racing so they will wear less frequently.

Re: What tyres?

i got bridgestone re720's on mine they cost me 85 a corner but dam they were so much better than the pirelis car caem with and the nankangsthat were put on once.
they sounded a lot quieter on road. and i have noticed more grip in wet. i dont drive fast but i can still notice a difference. also they look cool lol chunky with rim protector.

Re: What tyres?

like the sound of the bridgestone re720. rim protectors are a great idea, especially as I am planning to respray my alloys.
I was thinking of spraying them a light gold colour ...what do you guys think?
