Fiat Punto S, 1998 recently purchased. Intermittent increase in engine revs at unpredictable times e.g. on braking, on declutching, when engine idling and nothing else being done. Not reproducible and infrequent. NOT due to my accidentally hitting the throttle. Anyone else experienced this? Any infoo?

Ive had the same problem with my GT I cleaned the idle control valve with carb cleaner and that stopped it I also had the lamba sensor changed around the same time so it also could have been that but try cleaning the vale first.

Update on the suggestion. I cleaned the idle control valve and had a period with no further trouble, but had 2 recurrences in the last few days. So not so simple

Same thing here with my Punto2 60 (2000). The Fiat service did not find a reason, doubt if they really tried.
