Rear brakes on 1.2SX

I was trying to get the brake drums off my wife's 1.2SX this afternoon to check the condition of the drums and shoes. When I got the locating bolts out, the drums were loose and started to come free but appeared to be held in by the shoes catching and so I couldn't finish the job.

At this stage I can only assume that the drums have worn a ridge that won't let the drums come off, unless of course I have missed something like slacking off the handbrake cable or some such trick. Is there anyone who has any hints or tricks to removing the brake drums?

Thanks
