have I been taken for a ride?

I found I had the same rvsdropping whilst idling problem that lots of people onthis forum have had - i took it to the garage who suggested an auto electrician. I have just been handed a lovel £93 bill for replacing the plugs and HGT leads as they 'said' the leads were looking dodgy and it had rusted under the plugs etc - they also charged me for mor elabour as he said he'd 'cleaned' it all BUT couldn't find out what was causing the revs to drop! . However it seems a bit wierd to have plug and lead probs on a 4 year old car - or does it? worried I've been taken for a ride and none of it 'really' needed fixing !

Re: have I been taken for a ride?

Have you got a break-down of the costs? If it included an ecu test then that amount is likely. (40-50 quid for a test)

Re: have I been taken for a ride?

Yeah but breakdown was just the parts (leads and plugs) and then the rest labour (£52 for hour and a half) no mention of test cost. Its more that they didn't fix the problem but fixed other things that I didn't even know were wrong and suspect may not have needed fixing - wondered if anyone else has had their punto plugs and leads replaced at only 4 yrs ol?

by the sounds of things to me you might have a been ripped mate! but i could be wrong!

What i tend to do so i know im not being ripped off etc is when i take the car ill stand next to it and watch every thing he or she is doing and ask why whats wrong with it and ask to see it if it has a prob! that way you learn abit about the car and if nothing looks wrong with it you argue the case and the manager normal comes over!

Fast fit tryed that with me when had a new tail pipe wantted to replace something that didnt need doing! T**TS lol

There was no 1.1 Mk2 Punto. It's either a 1.2 8v or 1.2 16v.
