What do you hate about the mk2 Punto?

the clutch judder is a manufacturers defect according to this:

I suffer from it too!

Some people have had their clutch replaced under warranty only to go back a few days/weeks later to have the same fault occur, garages tell them there's a new modified clutch to solve the problem, then a modified modified clutch!

Fiat are paying out to customers who have a full service history and are threatening legal action but are basically telling everyone else to get lost, there wont be a recall because the fault doesn't appear to occur across the board.

When I went to my dealership and told them they denied any knowledge of this occuring in puntos, from what I've been told on that forum is that they've been made well aware of the problem.

i mean i really love it!! although i agree with most of your comments... but i think they're fab.
Shame on you all for having such a huuuge thread dedicated to the bad things..

they aren't things you hate, they're things you'd miss if you didn't have one

You're right I sold my mk2 in May this year and everytime I get into my new car, I miss the way the clutch pedal doesnt click. Only messing but I do miss it really, it was my first car.

Anyway it sounds like you'll fit in with the Punto mod Dave- anything thats not a Fiat isnt worth looking at You shoud go and introduce yourself in the Leisure Lounge

If Im stopped I dont get wet, But anything over 10 mile an hour and it gets me

The wipers were ****e. General tackiness is my only other moan, the way it rattles a bit, and the fact that owing to it being made out of what appears to be tin foil, I've dented it a couple of times with a small tap from my bike.

Good things though are the engine is good, the mpg is good, the rear legroom is good for a small car, it's extremely good value for money and I think it looks good.

On the washer jet thingys, I don't get wet with mine, plus if they're aimed wrong you can adjust where they are pointing by pushing the nozzles about.

I know that the punto has it's problems but in the end it's cheap, good looking and fun to drive. All cars have minor problems! Well most cheap ones.

I also get the juddering clutch but only rarely. Also hate the condensation in the headlights!

It wouldn't be a Fiat without the little niggles it would be a boring Ford/Vauxhall/Renault/nissan/etc. I have driven Fiats (& Lancias) on & off for the last 40 years (Yes I am an ole' Git) & they haven't changed, it's part of the charm. I learned to drive in a Fiat 850.
Seeing the comments on this post I'll stick with my MK1 55s no power steering/windows/central locking - there's an old engineering design advice called the KISS principle 'Keep It Simple Stupid' & today's car designers seem to have forgotten it!

I agree with everything so far and also

The fact you need to be related to Houdini to change a headlamp bulb

They put the rear section of exhaust on as one piece and then bolted the rear axle on meaning you have to cut the original one just to change the backbox and also pay for the connection piece.

You can remap the 8v and hgt now so theres no need to get a 16v

RE: the headlamp condensation thing, i just took the covers off the back and two years later, touch wood they've been fine.

When I had mine I didnt like:

It broke alot, maybe thats because it had done 64k miles when I bought it, but still, it broke ALOT, pretty much everything that could go including the headgasket went when I had it.

Heaters took ages to come on
Seats stain too easily
the A pillar I agree was huge
the window wipers are just terrible, mine kept falling off, and in the snow! I nearly died, juddering aswell


Apart from that I cant really think of anything else, the car was lowered etc so anyother faults like rubbing or being slowish were because it had 17's etc, good wee car but a bit of a hassle

my fiat is a 1.2 base model and i had it one day things i hate already : 1. true in second gear again when i deccelerate it kinda like feels its missing a few gogs on the gear ratio lol 2.im lucky my wiper blades are changed only one of them drivers side passengers side bit crappy 3. the radio oh my god how am i going to fit in a kenwood stereo and amp hassles that wasnt a question i kno how to do it .. .. 4. it kinda really hard not to just boot the car about it seems to like being thrashed than going around.. 5.m25 dont even bother going on m25 in traffic its really annoying changing down to 2nd gear and juddering i may even sell the car (only had it a day) .. 5. the drinks holder well i cant put a mc donalds drink in that without thinking its going to fail like the rest of the car . now the one thing i like 1.its a decent looking car and girls like it lol apart from getting a bit of a different ride i wouldnt suggest getting this car . ohh an 2 its cheapits a 2002 fiat punto

try driving the equivalent base model from other manufacturers, of course it's going to be a bit cheap. they all are

even though since i got the car in august, i've needed a new ignition coil pack and ht leads, and that the backbox decided to fall off on thursday, still love the car to bits, although it does leave me wondering, what's gonna go wrong next with it =/,
mind you one thing i'm not fond of is going over potholes, feels as if a wheel is gonna fall off or the cars gnna fall to pieces

I've got a mk1, so none of these problems

yeah i should've gone for a mk1, i think my bro's car has had less problems than mine, except it had 40k less miles on the clock than mine when he got it =p
