Air bag light

I Have A Mk2 Punto Sporting With A Small Problem. Whenever I Instantly Hit The Brakes The Airbag Light Flickers On For About A Second. I Have Been Advised That It Sounds Like A Poor Earth Connection. If So How Do I Try And Find The Poor Earth And Sort It?

Re: Air bag light

My Sporting had this exact same problem and the dealer replaced the instrument panel then the body computer but it turned out that it was actually the ignition switch that was faulty and causing the airbag light to come on when dabbing the brakes.

After the instrument panel was replaced all sorts of other problem developed like random warning lights coming on even when the engine was switched off.

After the body computer was replaced the engine kept cutting out or wouldn't start or would start even when the code warning was on.

After the ignition switch was replaced everything back to normal

Good job it was all under warranty as they just seemed to be working on trial and error

Re: Air bag light

It certainly was on mine and I have heard of other instances.

But you could also try resetting the ECU first which apparently has been known to clear strange faults similar to this. Resetting the ECU didn't do anything for mine. Only cured after new ignition switch

Re: Air bag light

OK. It has been into a Fiat dealer and the problem did stop for about a week. It seems to only flicker now and again when I hit the brakes suddenly. Is the ignition switch somehow connected to the air bag then? I suppose the air bag must have a live feed through the ignition switch when it is on maybe.

Re: Air bag light

Thanks alot. It was at Fiat dealer for the day. I dont think they did anything to be honest. Just remembered it got warrantee on it till may next year so it will be going back. The third year, which is a dealer warrantee, does that still cover everything I wonder. The car will be three in May next year.
