Alloy wheel refurb n shine :-)

Hi, i dont know wether theres any ppoint in showing you this but i was proud of it and thats wot this forums for i suppose, sharing stuf so i'll show you n e way ( even though you proabably cant tell the differnece from my pics of what i have done!) I bought my punto a few weeks back (im still 16 so i cant drive it yet) and im busy making it look very tidy, upon closer inspection of my alloys, i realsied sum t*t had resprayed them and had managed to make an amazingly bad job, so i set about taking the paint off like so:
Before painting

then i removed the wheel and started polishing with comma top cut:

after finding this was neva gona work i thought id try some cellulose thinners, cnt remember wether it was synthetic (duh of course):

This worked way better and when used with the polish after taking a thin layer off, i started getting results like this:

^^^Hope you can see!^^^^) Finaly i got one alloy completely done and i have compared it with the other one in the last pic, hope you can tell the difference bcoz its amazing in real life:

Pointless or not?

Re: Alloy wheel refurb n shine :-)

I paid a good sum of £300 at a local car auction, for a P reg car this might sound Expensive to some, but thats actually really good seeing as its the SX 75 version and from my dad being a trader hes seen them make up to £750 like on ebay with good ones, it has a minor dent on the nearside rear quarter panel on the wheel-arch and a couple of scratches below the filler cap and thats it. Interior is spotless, Came with alloys, and brand new tyres all round

Thanks for the compliment, pic of urs available?

Re: Alloy wheel refurb n shine :-)

I didnt get the red key, is there 100% a red key on a mk1 punto? i thort so but i had the battery off the other day and put it back on without any problems, off all night actually! Glad you like it. Im gona put either smoked side indicators or clear ones, but also i will hopefully get clear angel eyes as i think smoked ones look but maybe look too much just having a silver car. The angel eyes im lookin at are a practically like a mk2 headlight conversion and funnily enough they arent the usually tacky looking things

P.S. im 17 in 3 days

Re: Alloy wheel refurb n shine :-)

Word of warning to the kid who wants a bodykit.

Some insurance company's wont elt you mod your car if your under 25.
If you delcare it, you will pay a fortune
If you dont declare it, and you write it off into a big Merc. Say bye to your life and money

Modding ur car at a early age involves thought.. what can you get away with? what will you declare?..

Here's what I've done With my Mk1 Punto.

(It's all black, bumpers colourcoded also, looks tight) Personally the standard rear bumper looks tight on punto's.. Anyway..

Alloys - 15" Wolfrace Shadow Hybrid Chrome (To Keep the speed going, 16's slow it down too much i think..)

Not Lowerd.. (Cant get away not declaring it..) Looks good tho not to be lowerd.. and doesnt look like a Chav car

I'm working on tinting my rear windows.

Ging to get clear repeaters.

Tinting My Rear Light (Maybe)

Put Angel Eyes on (not for awhile tho)

It's only a first car so i aint doing to much to my baby yet.. Insurance companies are biatches

Re: Alloy wheel refurb n shine :-)

i dont get it, im with co-op insurance, and they dont mind about mods, as long as theyre only body styling mods, if theres no performance mods done, the premium doesnt go up, the first year i was paying £1500 third party, but now im payin £1200 ish fully comp after the second year, and thats with no years no claims, because of my accident.

Re: Alloy wheel refurb n shine :-)

insurance companies will only recognise standard security such as thatcham, delocking will put your premium up most likely. forget mods on your 1st car as you will pay enough on standard

Re: Alloy wheel refurb n shine :-)

instead of lowering it why dont you just buy sporting/gt springs they are 15-20mm lower than standard puntos would you have to declare alloys if you put fiat caps on them would the insurance company mind that

Re: Alloy wheel refurb n shine :-)

If the police did a spot check they wouldnt be bothered and i dnt think id bother declaring them, not really legal but you can always claim you thort they were standard and that they came like that on the car

Re: Alloy wheel refurb n shine :-)

The guy I bought my punto from had already modified it so I had no choice but to just accept it and declare the stuff 'cause it would cost more to put it back to stock, plus I got an amazing deal on the punto.

Mods declared:

Lowered 35mm
17" alloys (locking nuts)
tinted windows

Not declared(do they matter)
Backbox
Silver scoosher jet things

and my bank account = owned

bloody insurance, ive got passplus too, still a ripoff.
