Punto (Mk1) My exploit yellow 75 elx

Introduction

Hi.
My name is Simon and I haven't been on here in ages.
I'm a fiat nut who has owned fiats all my life as have my family. I work in a fiat dealership in dundee and have treated myself to a new car, as it's the first time in my life I have been without a fiat.

I bought the following car off ebay for 4 reasons

1. I had one as my first car
2. I just bought a house and have somewhere to keep it
3. My mum had a brand new exploit yellow 55 sx back in '95
4. Have plenty fiat techs to fix it when it breaks

So, I'm in dundee, the car was in Yorkshire, so my dad and I left 5:30am Saturday morning in his 500L to pick it up. I was worried about bringing a near 20 year old fiat 260 mile up the road, but it didn't miss a beat. It drives like a new car.

History- we'll it was sold new to a mrs crappe, at carnell fiat, she had the car garaged from new, done 70,000 miles in it. It had its original dealer plates on it which I changed, as they were tatty. Full years mot with no advisories, and a full service history. She specced it up with a drivers airbag!

The car come with a few parking dings, original scuffed wheel trims, and a couple of light scratches, otherwise it's mint.
Luckily working in a fiat dealer, I can get parts, a workshop with a 40 years served fiat technician, a dent man and body shop.

Took the car into work today to get all the dents removed, was up on the ramps for a health check- solid underneath, just needs new discs and pads and a rocker cover gasket. Underneath is solid, clean and all present and correct. It also needs a new cam belt cover as mine is burst. Then that's it mint.
Turns out the rear tyres are the factory originals, made 3rd week of 1995, so it will be getting a full set of brand new Goodyear duragrips I have in my garage.
Surprisingly every single thing works on the car, even the remote locking and being an elx it has an electric sunroof!!!

It's quite funny because all the fiat techs were all over it today, donating parts. One of them had an exploit yellow touch up pen that's been in his toolbox for 15 years, got handbrake cables and a rocker cover gasket, with more bits offered. They also went on e-sigi and printed out the complete history of my car, showing recalls for brake pipes, airbag ecu etc which is nice to keep.

Work so far done-

New genuine wheel trims
New genuine punto mats
Original fiat tape deck
Genuine fiat lineaccessorie front and rear mudflaps
General tidy up
Clay, wet sand, machine polish bodywork
New numberplates
Dents removed
Brand new badges
Full valet

I love this car, I can't believe how mint it is. Taking bad with no power steering though.
I put it in the showroom and took some piccies.
Anyway the pictures.......

Keys-

I got three keys with the car, the one which I use normally which is a remote key, a red key and a blue key which have never been used and brand new. Just shows how original and looked after this was by the previous owner....

The two black keys are for my autolock, but the silver key come with the car also- any idea what it's for?
Also the remote locking has stopped working and I'm having to use the key. Changed the battery in the key and it still flashes red but doesn't open the car. How do I fix this?

could be a few things stopping it from working.. but on a few fiat keys of this age i have had the button come loose from the circuit board and some careful soldering has stuck it back down. If its that the little light doesn't flash on the key when you press the button though.... does your key flash the little light?

Yeh it flashes still
My key flashes and appears to work to but doesn't actually unlock the car. Your car may have two little holes near the interior light, one is a light and the other is a button, if you're sat in the drivers seat the hole nearest is the button. If you have these get a pen or something small enough and press and hold the button in, the red light in the hole next to it should start flashing, now press and hold the button on your key until the red light stops flashing or goes solid red. This is supposed to 're-pair' your key. It didn't work on mine however...

I too, have non-operating remote locking. However, it didn't stop working overnight; it gradually got worse, requiring me to hold the key right next to the door, then stopped altogether. The red light continued to flash on the key, but I suspected a weak battery, so replaced it with a new battery, but to no avail. It certainly has the hallmark of a failing connection somewhere. I haven't tried re-pairing the key as suggested by Didge, but will give it a try, but suspect I will get the same outcome as him, given the general decline in operation, rather than sudden complete failure.

It worked, was impressed it stil worked after all that time, but then stopped. It was never that reliable, you actually had to point the key at the window inside the car for it to connect. It just annoys me it's stopped.

Anyway, I am off on holiday for a week so am going to get a chance to actually drive the car. Took it out for a wee drive tonight and put around 60 miles on it.
Stopped across the tay bridge on the way back into Dundee and took a quick photo.
I also tonight realised that my phone can bugger about with pictures making them black and white etc

Nah tha didn't work ?

If you search anywhere about mk1 Punto remote locking they all seem to be broken :bang:

Nice to have things in order ??I was looking through my old service book and found a receipt when mine was bought from a fiat dealer in Chesterfield for £8274 . My son who's 6 says I have to keep the gt until he's old enough to drive it ?

Seems 3 adults in the car is a no no.
Gave my mum and dad a lift home after a pub lunch and mud flaps scrape on the ground turning right.

Everyone is now banned from it haha

My memory of both the mk1 Punto and the Uno was although they have 5 doors using the back seats for adults leads to a lack of brakes, power and suspension travel.
