Painting Mk2 16v Rocker Cover

Hello all you wonderful people

Anyone painted there Mk2 16v rocker cover? After fitting my BMC I now have an exposed rocker cover and TBH it looks crap (small pits in the metal). Unlike the cinq or sei the rocker cover has the HT leads plugging into it (as well as other stuff), and therefore I assume that its a lot of work to dismantle it all ready for painting? I know it's nothing major and people don't tend to see your engine but now that I am going to more shows and am taking a more active role in the forum I thought it would be best if my car was show ready

Dave

Re: Painting Mk2 16v Rocker Cover

I wish it did dazz but the Sporting doesn't have a cover like yours and there is no large expanse to paint. I think my only choice is just to totally dismantle it, paint it and then put it all back together, dunno if I can be bothered

Re: Painting Mk2 16v Rocker Cover

I wouldnt start dismantling it unless you want to re-time it, and you'll have a job at that as fiat never sold the tools to the public or other garages. These tools are the pencil things that screw into the sparkplug holes. You would also need to lock the cams with a cam locking tool. Its a pig to get the cam cover off too without removing the inlet manifold.

But if you do all of this it could look very good. I thought of painting mine red when i had it in bits but never did it. I also wondered if it was possible to powder coat it as that would give it a really nice finish but i'm not sure about temps.

One way to clean the block is by using break cleaner. Should get it looking shiney.

Re: Painting Mk2 16v Rocker Cover

The only problem is just gunking it is the fact that the metal actually has lotsa pits in it (not sure if thats clear in the picture). Really want to get it totally smooth

Re: Painting Mk2 16v Rocker Cover

not to keen on your mechano brakets.....

I think the air filter came from Angel Tuning.

Distmantle the engine, send it to GSR and they can dip it in some sort of cleaner and that shines it up. I had this done when i had my head work completed. Wish i had done it on the whole engine.

Re: Painting Mk2 16v Rocker Cover

Lol yeah the brackets are universal, I will be removing them and creating a customised bracket

I got the BMC CDA from Alfa Nige for a very competive price, pm me if you wanna know how much.
