Hi guys, been lurking for a while on here but now have managed to get a (mostly) red punto gt3 off eBay. Its a '98 S plate with black alloys. I had a '97 R reg gt3 in Grey when I was a lot younger and always wanted another so I took the plunge. Its been owned by one family and current owner is an ex Fiat technician. I'll post a few pics after I pick it up on Thursday.

Well, that was an eventful trip. Car overheated in very heavy traffic and called AA to help. Seems just a case of too much heat as fan works and thermostat seems to work too. Now got a very long shopping list of bits to get, first being some new alloys as 2 are dented, there is no boost so probably a boost pipe split, needs a service and new tyres and probably do cambelt and water pump again just to be sure. Then I can start on the cosmetic stuff.

Will post some pics soon.

Unlucky man, I know how it feels.

I bought one from Dundee (I live in the lakes) and mine seemingly overheated on the way back. I suspected it was a headgasket. Turns out it had taken a chunk out the head and melted two pistons. Had to wait 3 days to get it back as I opted out of having breakdown cover (Never again!) and to top it off I got fined £100 for no MOT (I was on the way to a prearranged one!).

Never mind hey, the 150 miles it drove were enough to make me fall in love with it. If you haven't already, join Punto GT pages on FB, they have been really helpful to me already and could be to you.

Good luck getting everything sorted. Hopefully we will see it at some shows in the future.

did the seller tell you that it will overheat or that there is something wrong with the car? buying a car that overheats on the way home is a scam, you should return it to him and have him pay all the costs, unless you got it so cheap that it doesnt matter

The seller didn't know. The car has only been used for short journeys, I was in stop start 5mph traffic for over 20 miles with the outside temp over 25 degrees, the coolant may have been low but I didn't check it. There seems to be no damage, it runs fine besides no boost. Its a second hand car, sold as seen. I pay my money and take my chances.

tbh buying from private seller you really don't have many rights, you'd only have any leg to stand on if he stated definitively that everything worked as it should - the only thing you have from a private seller is if its not what was sold to you. Basically you would have to prove the issue was there before you drove off and for whoever the seller was to have said the issue wasn't there.

Besides all this, you are goning to be hard pushed to find a GT anywhere for sale that doesn't have some issues be it running issues or rust or whatever, and you don't go and buy a GT for any reason other than you really want one - its an enthusiasts car nowadays - so suck it up and fix it or break for parts and move on is my advice in this situation. Unless it was definitively sold as working in everyway and you have proof of such (written in advert or something) then you don't stand a chance in getting a penny back.

This is why so many people only buy from garages but even then alot of them will try wiggle out of refunds to such an extent that most people just give up

I really want to buy a GT also. But i see everybody haveing so muts problems with The GT that i choose not to. Because of the problems you guys have. And if i would buy one, it would be a second car. Next to my punto 85..... But there will be a GT in the future!! Thanks for all the posts u guys share!

Greetings Mickey Noordman.

As the previous poster says you def don't buy a gt if you want trouble free motoring. Mine has a few faults to sort before its mot next month but I knew that before I bought it.

The underneath look's Ok. Off side sill is starting to go but still solid. No rust around wheel arches or boot floor. Need to get it up on my ramps and underseal it tho when time permits. I have a new set if alloys to fit when I get tyres for them but funds are limited as I get married soon.
