sitting in traffic and driving slow, it went a little over that mark aswell as seen on pic

i changed thermostat, radiator and antifreeze last winter, could it be water pump or what is the reason it rose so far up?, fan turned on after gauge went over middle, and temp dropped to middle while driving, got enough antifreeze inside

Check there is enough coolant in there, and there is o air in the radiator (so try to bleed it). And then see if the temperature goes lower. As is if the sensors is accurate the temperature appears too high.

there is enough antifreeze in it, i bled it after i changed antifreeze, unless new air got in, cuz in winter heating was working normally

i wonder if it is possible that cuz there is more water than antifreeze in the mix and thats why temp goes higher?

I'll bleed it again. If there is an issue with the head gasket then air may get into the cooling system and then when overheating can/will happen.

i wish punto's had numbers on the gauge like cinqs do!!

tbh its been so long since i drove any punto other than my old gt i can't remember how the temp behaves but being that its same engine as a cento i should imagine it does about the same.... And in a cento its totally normal for the gauge to rise when going really slow or stationary.

questions:
1. Are you saying though that your fan comes on and the temp continues to rise but the temp goes down when you are moving again? Cause that to me would suggest to me that the fan isn't moving enough air to cool the engine.

2. If you just sit idling does the temp stop rising at some point?

3. Once the fan does come on does it start cycling on and off or is it on constantly until you move forward again?

4. If fan is cycling, how long does it stay on for before it turns off again?

To be honest, providing there's no other signs of issue, i'd not worry, just keep an eye out for it going any higher.

I'll assume the gauge is on the same scale as a cinqs. it's pretty normal for them to go up around the 2/3 mark if sat in traffic or moving slow for a while and the fan to seem on about as much as its off!. So as long as the fan is bringing it down and it drops to around half way when it's getting room to breath, then there's probably not much or anything wrong, only if it starts to feel like it's overwhelming the fan should there be much cause for concern IMO.

i was scared when temp went a little over the mark seen on pic, so i put it on warm and speed 3, it stopped rising right there, dunno is it cuz of this or cuz fan was cooling it, wasnt paying attention if fan was going off and on, was in rush hour traffic, first time tested temp gauge in hot summer temps since i put new dashboard in

On my punto mk1 1.2, if the temperature shows like in the picture, alarm bells ring and will do just like you, will turn on heater fan to aid cooling.
You can check quickly for air in the radiator by checking with your hand if the top of the radiator is hot when the engine is hot. If the radiator seems cold at the top then you have air in it. If it is hot then the cooling system will be fine.

well i suggest you leave the car idling outside your house and get the answers to the above questions... To me for it to rise in traffic is totally normal, yes modern cars tend to sit completely in the middle of the gauge but what you describe sounds totally normal to me for a FIRE engine. So long as the fan cuts in and stops the temp rising and brings it down until the fan turns off..

We know the cooling system works if you are travelling along and as far as the car is concerned there is no difference between going along and the fan drawing air through the rad when idling - if the fan doesn't stop the temp rising and bring it down to the point the fan starts cycling then you have an issue. I suspect your just being overly cautious myself but you need to check the above questions before you move on really.

If the car starts getting too hot while doing the above don't turn the car off, leave it idling and spray cold water over the rad with a hose, this will cool the entire engine pretty quickly ;)

edit: do that all without the heaters on, it will expose any issues better.

didnt knew this trick before, good one

well hit me on the head with a dead kipper but why has no one mentioned the coolant radiator switch in the radiator and also asked/confirmed whether fan works by joining wires temporarily together

was in traffic again and temp went a little over what is seen on first pic, heaters on hot and after 10 mins it starts blowing cold air despite heaters on hot, i turned heaters off and after 5 mins i turned them on again and it blew hot air again
checked antifreeze few days ago it was a little above min when car was cold
whats the reason it was blowing cold air all of a sudden
