Hi guys

Pretty sure I have a fuel pump issue on my Cabrio. Should it prime when the ignition is turned? (Buzz for a couple of seconds)

The reason I ask is mine is silent and I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it failing to start at the min and apparent lack of fuel.

I'm very grateful for any help and advice.

Thanks

Steve

Thanks for the reply. I have replaced it as I assumed mine had failed as no priming and typical lack of fuel type non starting.

I have the seats folder and the inspection panel off and in a quiet garage. Still nothing. As this was a secondhand part there's a good chance it's also failed.

Fuse is intact and I can hear the relay clicking when ignition turned.

The odd thing is when I had changed the pump it spluttered into life for a second and has again failed to fire. This all just happened very suddenly.

Quite baffled.

as fingers says, check for 12v at the pump - can also try applying 12v direct to the pump, if it works it will start whirring away.

If not getting 12v to the pump then my first thoughts would be either inertia switch as mentioned or immobiliser - although it is not common for the immobiliser to fail at all. Also make sure the connectors at the fuel pump aren't all dirty/corroded too.

You could try the hard way. Disconnect the fuel line at the filter and try to start. If fuel gush out of the line at high rate you know the pump works.
