I recently purchased and fitted a set of SX dials to my 55S punto. I connected the Rev counter up by following the Haynes manual and also assumed that the temp gauge would work as the wiring in haynes is identical for the crappy tem high light and the temp gauge. Now the gauge only goes up to 1/4 of the wya and if i connect up the old clocks the red light is glowing to indicate that it is overheating. (could possibly be the temp sender unit. But i cant find it) There is no signs of Head gone as I am not losing Water or it is not bubbleing as I have read that these are tell tale signs in other threads. Please can someone help me if they have experianced this fault before or if they can tell me where the temp sneder unit is so i can take it out and test it.

Has any one got the S to sx pin outs for the dash assembly.

IN the past I have rewired the connectors on the old Escorts by removing the wire and clip from the clip and replaced to the right possision on the connectors

Are the wire colours the same?

Yes i'm new here, i've been searching for wiring diagrames across a few sites with no luck
 
you just need to get a temp sender from an SX version for the temp gauge to work? Thats what I heard anyway.

I'm assuming you've got the rev counter working (ie run a wire from pin 23 (PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK with the Haynes manual - as I'm working from memory here) and then connect in where the power supply for the clock used to go (ie cut the power supply wire (insulate the end properly!!!) and then splice the rev counter wire onto the plug)

The rest of the wiring is exactly the same, and everything else should work. The temperature sensor on the S models (back of the cylinder head) won't work with the gauge - as it is just a switch that is either on, or off, depending on the temp, rather than giving a varying output with the temperature. Just unscrew this, and buy an actual temperature sender (about £3 off ebay) to screw in place, and then reconnect using the same wire. Remember to bleed coolant system properly afterwards (ideally use the chance to change the coolant if it hasn't been done in a while)

It should all then work (although if you do this upgrade on your girlfriend's car they are liable to whinge about not having a clock, and then ignore the tacho and temp gauge anyway...)

It is very easy to change the mileometer reading on the speedo - but I won't share details, as I don't want anyone clocking them. An even better thing to do is to put your original speedo into the new cluster (that way you've definitely got the correct item for the gearing in your car). Unclip the shroud on the front of the cluster(don't forget to remove the trip counter reset - it just pulls out - be brave!), and then undo about two (or maybe 3 - can't remember) screws on the back, just behind the speedo. The speedo can now be pulled out - there is a little multi-plug with about 3 wires in it that you have to disconnect. Your old speedo can then be plugged into this, and the whole lot reassembled - it is fairly easy.

I know that this definitely works, and that you only need to run the extra wire for the tacho, and fit in a proper temp sensor rather than temp switch for the temp gauge, as I did this to my girlfriend's punto.

Some of the very first puntos had a mechanical speedo - but I think most of the wiring is the same for this. In this case, you'll definitely need to fit our original speedo into your new cluster.

By the way, you don't need to take the dash apart for this - just undo the two allen bolts holding the cluster in. You do not need a rewire, and to be honest - fitting an aftermarket tacho would probably be more difficult! and make a mess of your dash! All the wiring diagrams and pin-outs for the clusters are in the Haynes Manual aswell - so don't be scared of doing this. Worse comes to worse, you can just put it all back!
