I have using the original shelf on my GT. Just cut the holes, fitted the speakers and covered the lot with that black sound stuff. Used a glue gun to stick it down. Sounds crap but looks good!

The standard shelf will bend over time and sounds crap, get a bit of 18mm MDF and draw round your shelf, cut it out and you are done.

I agree with Evil-Punto, you need to go for something solid or the sound quality will decrease. I used 18mm for mine, but it adds a lot of weight, 12mm or even 9mm would be sufficient.

You can also get a spray adhesive made for the job, which leaves a much neater finish and costs £3 a can- which will easily be enough. The black felt goes for around £25 in Halfords but look around and you can get it for £15.
