Angel Tuning Remap

Hey all,

Well I finally got a remap of my Punto Mk2 Sporting from Angel Tuning and boy am I glad I did it.

Lets be honest here, the punto doesnt have the smoothest of engines from standard and has quite a lot of niggling problems that where really starting to get me down (was starting to regret getting the car ). Well I am glad to say that they have all gone . Yup every since one, vanished . When pulling away in first gear from a stand still I had quite a large flat spot in the acceleration where the car would barely move and then after about 20 feet it suddenly jumped forward. Also it had the common fault in Punto's which is the low rev 'stutter' when the car is driven around 30 mph, if you took your foot off the acelerator (even in low gear), it would 'stutter' until you gave it more revs. Finally there was little or no poke in the upper gears, when changing from 3rd to 4th I found a great different in the torque between the gears. Well the remap pulled down it's trousers and mooned the problems. They have all run scared

I was very sceptical before I got the remap, was really worried that it was just another gimic that was used to yet again try and make us part with our money, but after hearing so many positive reviews and after discussing my concerns with the extremely helpful guys at Angel tuning, I decided it was at least worth a try. The remap involved running a diagnostic on the ECU to check that there were no errors before he remapped it (thank god their wasn't). Then he went under the bonet and removed the ECU and plugged his recoder (don't ask for the technical name) and uploaded the old program onto the machine (just incase something goes wrong [as if]) and then downloaded the new program. The ECU was then placed back into the car and the engine was allowed to run idle for 5 mins or so (just to check that everything was fine when ticking over). The final step was that we drove around a bit and check that everything was behaving as it should. When I got back I had a big smile on my face .

The guy from Angel Tuning (Nige) was extremely helpful when I had questions (even unrelated ones), very polite and patient with me (especially when I started going on) and never once seemed to be in a rush to go anywhere. Once he had done the remap he didn't rush off, he hung around and made sure that I was happy with what I had. I couldn't recommend Angel tuning more highly http://www.angeltuning.co.uk . I throughly researched the remapping procedure before hand (I am a very suspicious person) and during this I found out that there was only a handful of companies offering this service and after reading reviews of each one, Angel tuning came out tops (I found out that gsr engineering send all the cars to be remapped, to red-dot for them to do).

The remap cost me £150 + travelling expenses, which may seem a lot (I am a student, I know everything about poverty), but I can promise you that its worth every penny and more. Forget your expensive exhausts and induction kits. Get the remap first and let everything else come second. If you love your car and when it to perform how it should perform then get a remap right away. Don't delay, get a remap today

Hope this review helps,

Dave

Re: Angel Tuning Remap

Good stuff

Not sure about getting exhaust/induction kit after though, if the remap is carried out with these mods surely the gains from it would be more I might be completely wrong though!

Re: Angel Tuning Remap

See, I told you Dave [Dave as in darkcircuit, not Dave as in dave, nor WRP].

Gaz - totally reversible, so nothing to be worried about, ok

At David [WRP ] - when I had the Stilo done, it was recommended I had the CDA as well, to take full advantage of the map.

Re: Angel Tuning Remap

Lol way too many Daves/Davids on here!!

It does make sense I suppose, but if its a choice between either the exhaust/induction or remap then remap definately- cant always afford both at the same time

Re: Angel Tuning Remap

Nige (from angel tuning) told me that it will not affect the performance gains from the remap if I fit an induction kit afterwards. The only product he recommends that you have fitted before the remap is a full exhaust system (if you are going to install one of course).

You got it slightly arse about face :-)
The induction kit will improve the performance but you dont need to have the ECU remapped to take it into consideration as it will compliment it if retro fitted. Same as if you put an induction kit on a standard mapped ECU. We have had special ones put together for use with CDA's but there is little additional gain over the "standard" modified, its not worth it CFM wise, IOO.
