i have recently aquired a mk1 fiat punto and quite often, as i raise the revs a bit to pull away, the engine just splutters and will try to cut out, or if it happens as i am going along (normally when ive changed up a gear) and i push on the accelerator pedal a bit more it will spurt forwards after doing this for a couple of seconds and then just carry on as normal again. It just seems to randomly do it as some days it will be fine. Why is this????????? Has anybody else suffered anything similar???

no, its a 55sx, n reg, and i am completely baffled.
i dont know whether to change the fuel filter and sparkplugs, but it is low mileage, so i dont see why they should need doing??

mine did that (60s) and i just put it down to my driving as it only ever happened when i was pulling away.

the descent into insanity continues unabated

You will have to work on a process of elimination Winky. Try the air filter first as it's the cheapest, then change the plugs. Also change the fuel filter as this is often overlooked and very important. Low milage cars tend to foul the plugs more often than high milage cars due to them only being run on a richer mixture when the engine is cold, hence a bigger carbon build up on the gap.

2000 ELX Green Induction kit, Ecotek Valve.

cheers stumpy, i will try it! already changed airfilter, not much difference though:(
