Hi guys last week i added a thread regarding my Mk1 1998 fiat Punto sporting and couldnt understand why it wont turn over thought it was a battery prob so charged it up still no joy, clean the plugs and checked leads still no joy, even tried a brand new battery i have for my Rover and still no joys, the plugs little oily but nothin to write home about so i cleaned them and put them back in all wires etc fine and all electrics seem to work, could it be a starter motor prob does anyone think??

What are you getting when the Ingition key is turned?
Nothing? No noises
A Wizzing/whuring noise - ie the motor is spinning but not starting the engine
A Single turn and nothing else?


What does the dash do? Does it stay lit? doesn't dim? Key Code light on?

Hi ziggy only way i xcan best try ans describe it is that when you turn the key it sounds just like when you have a flat battery sound for only a few seconds no obvious warning lights on the dash etc, really wish i could describe it better, if you could send me a private message i could send you my number and explian it better if that helps

solenoid on the starter motor! sounds like you need a new one.
if you remove it there are ways of testing the motor and the solenoid separetly.
