Technical Head gasket or new engine?

Technical Head gasket or new engine?

Been doing a little research and ordered 8 exhaust valves.. All the inlet ones look good.

Been watching some vids on youtube and it looks very easy tbh. Need to get a spring compressor but not sure what to get. Most of the vids I've seen use a compressor that clamp on to the top of the spring and cap. The majority of stuff on ebay are like a G clamp which press on the top of the spring and the the bottom of the valve.

Would prefer the clamp on type but space may be limited? Looks quite tight on some of the valves.

Looking at some of the g-clamp types, im not sure some will work properly, so any recomendations?

Ones the spring is compressed, the vids mosly show people removing the the retainers with a magnet. Is this the same on the fiat engine or do I need to pop them off another way?

Then is it just as simple as swapping in the new valve and get the spring back on? The head gasket set I got came with the valve seals so I may as well replace. Do they just pop on and off?

Cheers

G clamp ones are a total ball ache! I'd never go back.

Use a magnet to remove the collets,
Before you put the clamp on the springs, tap the valve spring retainer to loosen the collets/retainers, hit them gently you'll feel them free up.

Got some chemco double ended stuff.

Also just ordered a new inlet gasket and head gasket. Anyone would think I actually had money in the bank

Btw. Anyone know what size bolt the inlet manifold is? Exhaust manifold is M8 but inlet is smaller, but M6 is too small and nowhere seems to stock an M7... is it an M7?

Dave sorry for the dislike it's due to using my iPad I hit the button when scrolling the screen damn touch screen, I could not for the life of me find how to delete it, then had to go out and forgot about it. So humble apologies to you it was accidental if someone can tell me how to delete I will happily. ps now scroll the screen using left side to stop that happening again.

Yeah whatever. You just hate Dave... Don't worry. We all do :D:p

Punto is still sat on the drive. Not moved in over a week . The new valves are waiting for me at the post office depot so I'll be collecting them tomorrow and holefully will be on the way to reassembling the engine tomorrow if the weather is nice.

Old valves are out and ive replaced the seals. Originally ordered the wrong valves (inlet instead of exhaust) so that has delayed me further.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow :D

Woooo! The punto lives!

Just a tip for anyone buying a valve compressor. Do not buy the grab type as above. Useless waste of metal that was ok to get the springs off but impossible to get them back on. I gave up trying after 20mins on the first one and went out and bought a good quality G type. £49.99 but had the rest of the springs on in 20 mins.

Fingers crossed this is the last time the head will need to come off!... Getting bored of it now...

One thing that makes it all worth it though is the fantastic noise the 16v fire makes. Bliss.

Bushboy, did you actually discover why the belt jumped a tooth?
Its important to know.
