Re: first timer

Alright mate,

When I got my car 1st thing I did was to get some audio equipment as I am very much a music lover (dance, trance, house etc). I bought a nice sony headunit, a 6 disc changer, changed all the speakers for JL audio and bought some JL 6x9's that are sitting nicely in the parcel shelf.

When I had saved some more money I bought some abarth side skirts and some 17" wolfrace wheels.

Just to give you an idea of where to start.

Let us know what you plan to do, always interesting to see what people have done!

If you've got the 1.2 8v dont go above 16" alloys, unless you only ever do town driving

(If youre looking at changing rear lights, I have some nice smoked lexus lights waiting to be bought )

Re: first timer

The 1.2 8v cant really cope with the weight of 17"+ alloys. Its not really noticeable around town, but 50mph or above - 50-70mph takes about a day and when you're at 70mph, you'll have your foot to the floor and the car not wanting to go any faster. All this while you watch the needle on your fuel gauge go down.

Is that enough to put you off?!

(Trouble is they look better than 15"/16"- see my signature)

Re: first timer

Hi and welcome.
Toads are good but expensive, and the only alarms that are gonna knock anything off your insurance are CAT 1 alarms, look to pay £200+ fitting.

Audio, I would steer clear of the cheaper brands (sony, panasonic, etc) if you want a quality head look to spend a good £300RRP, for something that plays one CD and has a lot of potential i.e 2 or more pre outs, a sub woofer pre out, DAB ready or CD changer ready (one or the other, want both, look more around £400 RRP).
I have been a fan of Alpines my whole life, I now own three in three different cars, a CDE 9828RB for the punto (£148 from pixmania, then changed backlight for a more suitable colour for £3, they retail at £299 in halfords, in 2004), a CDE 9812RR for the Audi (sounds great, and is very nice looking, swingface series, cost £220 and they also retail at £299) and an older (1992) Cassette player in the other Audi (boring 1.6 A4), which cost nearly £500 in the day, and will put most CD players to shame, while its playing well recorded chrome.

You want to avoid funky features like the swingface type ones, as they are more likely to break and will contain the same electrics as a cheaper model, so your just paying for looks, which is pointless unless you are a chav (which I hope your not) who cares for nothing but looks and bling.

Which ones?? Left are 15" right are 17"

Ive got a Toad alarm, bought it for 110quid then paid 60quid for fitting. So not that expensive.
