Question Ecotek Valve in MK2 Sporting?

Hi guys and gals I seen it mentioned several times before on other threads, but I would really apprentice some more advice on the infamous Ecotek valve please. In particular in relation to fitting it in a MK2 Punto Sporting!

I bought an Ecotek valve a while ago for my last car but never got round to fitting it. But since I have some free time this weekend I plan to install it in my MK2, 2000 X Reg, 1.2 16v Punto Sporting. I’m fairly sure that I’ve correctly identified the brake servo pipe (will post pictures shortly to confirm with you all before I start cutting! ) but I’m a little concerned with some of the comments about it being fitted to the 1.2 8-valve engines. I've seen it mentioned elsewhere on this forum that the brake servo pipe only feeds the No.4 cylinder on the 1.2 8-valve engine, leading the 4th cylinder to run lean when the valve is installed. Does any one know if this is the case for the 1.2 16v also? And has anyone installed it in a MK2 1.2 Punto Sporting and what were the results?

Cheers for any help!

What sort of BHP increase would I get with a remap is it really worth a few hundred quid for it?

Well put it this way...How much did you spend on the EcoTek thingy? £100? Spend double that on a remap and you'll see a far better increase than the EcoTek ever would.

As for BHP the increase, i think Angel reckon they can get around an extra 9bhp but I think the torque improvement is the really noticeable one.

Re: Ecotek Valve in MK2 Sporting?

I was lucky with the Ecotek, I got it on an ebay auction, it only cost me £30

Can you really get 9bhp increase on a 1.2 sporting with a remap? That's a 10% increase in power so that would be well noticable

A remap is going to rip a hole in my pocket regarding insurance isn't it?

Re: Ecotek Valve in MK2 Sporting?

Do they just remap the existing ECU then? By that I mean not add any other chips to the ECU which would be noticable if inspected by an insurance bod?

Re: Ecotek Valve in MK2 Sporting?

Hmmm sounds tempting I must say Back on topic does anyone know if the Ecotek will just lean out cylinder 4 like on the 1.2 8v engine? Anyone here fitted it in a 1.2 16v? Has anyone had any good experiances with them?

Re: Ecotek Valve in MK2 Sporting?

Snake Oil, it was a con in america some while ago. People selling stuff that they said did something but in reality it just didn't offer what was promised. I have had an eco-tek value and not only is it annoying noisy but it produced neglible gains in mpg. Definately not worth the money.
