Hello all. I have a P reg Mk1. I seem to have quite a bit of what looks like wet oil on the front of my engine block. The seal on the rocker cover seems quite wet too, as does the transmission housing (think this is right part).

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I had my coil pack off yesterday, to give myself some room to replace the thermostat. There seemed to be an alright seal on the O.

What is the difference between camshaft seal and rocker seal in terms of location - forgive my ignorance.

Thanks

You have, in that area, the O ring on the coil pack, the cam (aka rocker) cover gasket and a bona fide oil seal on the pulley end of the camshaft.

noticed some oil on top of water pump metal hose and on top of fuel pump, wiped it clean 1 week ago, so there must be a leak somewhere, cant be camshaft cover gasket as i changed it on 4th feb and couldnt see any oil around it

had a look in autodata to check how long it should take to change the other oil seals

are these numbers correct or just inflated to charge customers more

almost 4 hours to change crankshaft rear oil seal?

as far as i know the one referred to as rear crank seal is the gearbox end, I changed this on my 16v engine before i dropped it in my cinq - 4 hours would be pretty good going i think for a diy job without a lift and all the tools they would have in a proper garage.
Once all apart it took me a fair while just to get the new seal in properly and seated without damaging it - touch wood i have no leaks so far.

Top end i.e rocker cover gasket and camshaft seal can be leaky. Engine condition can affect things, too. Had a leak last summer, but when winter came in and after an oil change the leak disappeared!!! I will not be surprised when summer kicks in that my leak will come back. I am surprised my engine has not sprung any bottom end leak, like crankshaft seals or engine sump gasket yet.
