As many unforunate others, i was driving while it was pouring down and my linkage broke. Typicaly A) while i was 200 miles from home (blackpool) and b) it was the driver side. Took it to a grage after a few mins of near blind driving to get charged for a "temp" fix, they charged me going on £40 for which i belive is what is refered to here:
Any help is apriciated.

dont get me wrong.. if the plastic bush wears out completely it may be a little juddery... i wouldnt worry about that happening til it happens.. but least you'll know it wont fall off.. and if you do then decide to use one of these patterned replacement.. its would be easier to do so because you've only drilled and pinned it.

Posts: 4 Thanks: 0 Trader Rating: 0 | re: mk2 punto wiper linkage upgrade. read the thread and ordered the replacement linkages as the linkage on the drivers set kept falling off. Whilst i waited i tried something else. I got some washers from B&Q (see attached photo) which cost about 99p. The one thats missing is in use; with the linkage in place, slip it over the bottom end of the spindle and work it up a couple of mil and its will hold in the 'cutaway'; basically the spindle's diameter is narrower a coupe of mil up - this has held for a couple of weeks where as before the linkage was falling off every 2 or 3 wipes. Hope that helps. M.

I used the same principle but with a thin ponytail hair band, last about 6 months. I also tried knicker elastic but that's far too flimsy

I bought the Wipex £30 upgrades back in December, and everything was fine and good until March, when the linkage popped off on the drivers side. I don't think it was on this forum, but I read a possible fix was to duck tape the wiper assembly around the joint, keep an eye on it over time, and it would be fine. Last night, driving home on the motorway at about 11 in a huge downpour, the linkage popped off. I've been thinking about using a split pin to get round the problem - was wondering if anyone has tried that with the Wipex set?

Fit them so they cross over each other. Difficult to describe but easy to do. And this needn't be seen as a temporary job. I've fixed a similar joint on a Peugeot gear linkage (at the base of the lever) and it's lasted at least a couple of years. Three cheers for cable ties, one of the best inventions of the last 50 years. If in doubt, think cable tie.

get a long flat screw driver put it near end of old linkage near black rubber rings, tap end of screw driver with palm of hand and it will knock the old linkage off. start with fitting new ones to passenger side wiper, simply use wire or rope around it to pull it onto ball, then put other end on to ball on motor with a set of grips, then put the drivers side one onto the motor. then turn wiper on with ignition off, then turn ignition on for a nanno second so passenger wiper stops in the middle of screen. you can now move the drivers wiper by hand so you have access to the ball on bottom. now use the rope again to pull the last bit on to the ball and the job is don | |||

My girlfriend's Punto mk2 wiper has decided to completely let go, and ideally I could do with getting the Wipex kit tomorrow rather than waiting for delivery. Cheers, Mike

I had a bit of a dumb moment last night and forgot that I had insured her on my car, so she's taken that today. That's a gut-wrenching feeling watching someone else drive off in your car. I've ordered the Wipex linkages and they should be on their way. It is amazing that there seems to be only one company making replacements for an obviously flawed part (ignoring the company that makes the full adjustable kit of course).

This happened this sisters mk2 2004 sport, and I replaced the wiper arms with the wipex kit about a year ago. however, about 2 weeks ago the arm popped off on passenger side. by inspection, it looks like the wipex kit has worn out too...as though i was able to pop it back on there was very little tension. Im wondering should i spend another 30quid on a wipe kit, or is there a reliable and tested method to repair this issuer, without the poss of having to spend 30quid a year on linkages?
