Did a mini-service on the MK1 the other week - sparks, oil and filter, air filter and gearbox oil - prior to MOT. Did the trick - she passed first time, advisory free, with emissions lower than last year!
One slight problem though - would you expect a high initial rate of oil consumption after an oil and filter change? I put in 3.2l plus a Redex treatment which filled it to the limit. 10 days later, a couple of hundred miles, and I've had to put in a litre to fill it back to maximum
I've checked the obvious things, filter is tight enough and old gasket came off whole, sump plug doesn't seem to be leaking. Rocker cover has only just been done and I can't see any obvious spills.
Is this a common thing, will it settle down, or do I need to investigate a bit more?

Did u fill the filter & smear oil around the seal before putting it back on?

But filter would only hold 300ml id say, so have a good look for any signs of leaking. Degrease and wash around the rocker cover, filter & sump, drive for a few days and recheck for any sign of oil

Smeared oil around the seal, but I just put the filter on 'dry'. Schoolboy error. I guess that could account for a good portion of the volume. Will keep an eye on it, hopefully that's it.

its best to fill the filter before fitting so oil circulates faster on 1st startup. Also always check the level cold as it drops when hot.

A leaking sump can lose oil when moving and not leave much mess. Could be doing the job has knocked out some rust.

Oil level varies hot and cold so that could be part of the issue. But the sump its not a costly job at a garage so just get it done. Rust in the oil system isn't good.

New pan from about £30 and max 2 hours labour.

anyone perhaps know whats the difference shown between hot and cold oil level on dipstick or how much oil starts to circulate when you start car
