i have just put some 17" alloys on my mk1 punto.

the drive is very very very very bad, it wants to go in every direction at the same time and the gear stick wobbles like crazy,, i am in the process of finding a garage who will lower it for me,,, but what will be better a 40mm drop or a 60mm

has any1 here put 17's on and drove it when it was not lowerd ?? how was your drive ??,, to be honest my car now feels terrible and i need it lowerd quick

the one problem with my fiat is that its to damn fast !!

I've no direct experience of this but it sounds like something that should be sorted BEFORE lowering & not to regard lowering as a cure!

At a guess I'd say that the tracking geometry is wrong (different) now that larger wheels are fitted. Presume the wheels were not 2nd hand & therefore at risk of being out of true in one or more dimensions?

It's also not uncommon for wider & lower profile tyres to respond much more markedly to road defects, producing a 'steering itself' impression.

all things must pass.

i forgot to say on my first message that my front left shock has also gone, this makes the car pull to the left a little...

ive read a few different car forums and everyone says when they get bigger wheels and give the car a drive it feels totally different on the steering

the one problem with my fiat is that its to damn fast !!

When I put 16" coupe wheels on my Punto it did the same thing, when I used lower profiled tyres it sorted itself out. Have the tracking done when the lowering kit is put on. I trust you arn't just putting springs on?

i am puttin a complete new suspension kit on,,

a mate told me tonight it could well be the tracking, as the gear stick vibrates like crazy at about 50mph

the one problem with my fiat is that its to damn fast !!

i picked up my second punto in feb it had already been lowered but was riding on the standard 14 inch alloys i put 17's on a few weeks ago there's a little bit of shaking at 80 but thats it sounds like you should get all your suspension sorted first if the shocks gone the larger wheels gonna put tones more puresure on it and make it ten times worse get the tracking and balancing done aswell

I HAVE 17IN FOX EVO 11 ON MINE WITH NO PROBLEMS.....IT HAS BEEN LOWERED 45 MM AND HAS LOW PROFILE TYRES....HAD TO CHANGE THE SHOCKS THOUGH, HAVE YOU DONE THAT?

17's make it tramline like mad, mine is a nightmare when the road is not level.

Bloody Car costs me a bomb, why do they bring more and more out for it ??
