My daughter has a 1998 R REG mk1 75SX Punto with the audio controls on the steering wheel.

After buying the car, I discovered the light stalk switch had snapped inside its housing and decided to replace the whole unit with a second hand one from EBAY.

I managed to fit the new one and am pleased to say that all the lights now work - however neither the horn or the remote audio controls are no longer working since I have replaced the unit - I appear to have two copper strips towards the bottom right hand corner of my original unit which I assume the horn & audio controls plug into - the replacement unit does not appear to have these - can these be swapped over to the new unit and will this then make the horn work? - I am not so bothered about the audio remote although it would be nice to have both working as intended - any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

It is possible to remove and replace the light switch stalk from the unit, but it is fiddly and it helps to have three hands (or a willing assistant), when you are putting it all back together again. There are about five small screws holding the unit together and a number of plastic tags which you can release from behind. You should be able to remove the broken stalk from your original unit and repace it with the one from the replacement unit. There are no wires to worry about in the stalk itself, all the contacts are in the main unit. It is worth cleaning out the fluff from the contacts while you have it apart.

Good luck.
