This lump of metal form a mk 1 Punto (part #7735817 I believe) now lives on my garage floor having collapsed in a heap of rust.

Anybody replaced one of these? Are they expensive from Fiat?
Does the radiator have to be removed?

Cross member, very prone to rust.

Radiator can come off without draining it. Just lift it up and support it, although if yours has already fell off I don't know what the radiators sat against as they sit onto the cross member on a mk2 (presuming mk1 is the same)

No idea how much they'd cost new and any you'll find in a scrap yard will be rusted to hell aswell

Same happens on Mk1 Nissan Micras, had ours replaced at a garage for £120 all in many moons ago, we no longer have the car.

Absolutely! Mk 1 and Mk 2 same I believe.
I'm "lucky" in that its the "wings" that have rusted out. The bit the radiator sits on is still intact and seems to be held in place by front valance.
Thanks for input

BTW the Fiat ePER wil not give me prices. Is that normal do you know?

They wont be too costly as they will often get mashed in slow speed shunts so lots will be sold. Try a body parts factors, paint it properly and Waxoyl it before fitting.

Also get some large captive washer self tapping screws as the large flat headed 6mm thread torx screws will be rusted solid.

The flat headed torx bolts will probably snap off. Drill a suitable hole alongside and use the large self tappers.

With the help from everybody above, the problem with the radiator cross rail was solved cheaply and the Punto now boasts a brand new rad support fully protected
BUT.............
Didnt realise the other lump of metal that supports the bumper (Fiat part 7739453) was also rusted to hell. Also found a cheap suppleir for that at nicedeals.co.uk.

Worth knowing. If one bits gone, so is the other one!
