I recently bought a punto mk1 td70 , nothing to complain about it mechanically but I need advice on the roof drip side moulding. After i bought it i discovered hidden rust underneath it near the winscreen on one side and the roofrack brackets. I cleaned, sanded and covered with 2 coats of hammerite white (since the car is white). then I covered all with white zinc grease and put on new rubber mouldings but these dont fit snuggly in the area where are the brackets even with doors closed. There is a gap between the roof and the moulding. What do u suggest as a solution for this gap ? And if u can give me suggestions if I did any mistakes in dealing with the problem, maybe I can further touch up or do things differently next Summer.

thanks in advance for any replies !
regards.

while the next photo is my car (white mended) , the problem is that when I replaced this rubber it did not fit as snuggly as before., especially when the doors are open and do not sandwich this rubber against the roof concealing it.

the white pasty thing is simply white grease

You may be great when it comes to oil and turbo's but computers got you beat :p

If you don't plan on using the roof racks and the seal fits everywhere else fine I'd still say just silicone glue it on Creates a nice water tight seal and the door will still shut fine (y)

thanks for the reply :)
by any chance anyone knows a type of grease that is really sticky? I mean that messy that eventually will keep things together. cos if such thing exists I solved the problem completely ( cos to silicone it i need to remove a ton of grease completely and might damage the hammerite paint

The underbody paint called tetroseal is for stopping rust! That is thick and sticky as anything! Been trying to get it off my hands and outta my hair all day!

Was only after painting the entire bottom of my car that I read it's harmful and irritant to skin :p
There's me not caring and sticking my head in the drips on the floor :p
Good excuse to shave my head I suppose

I nerdly solved the problem...:p back to the guy that does not like mk 1s :p

I mixed pure lithium marine grease with some water... the result a honey sticky substance that its messy like hell lol .
I guess I just needed to wait for some rain and the rubber adhered perfectly:) all cos of the lithium reacting with the water. Mind you I had to really mix all up vigorously with a whipper.

I love to whip things :D
