hi..i have a 96 75sx punto and i got alot of problems in it..one of them is that it's performance has been worse lately it doesnt accelerate as it used to be , gas consumption is also off limits (about 6km/litre)..the engine doesnt start except after several attempts if i have relatively low gas level in the tank(it's ok if i have more than half the tank full)..i could smell gas but not very often...i took it to some mechanics..i changed the fuel pump but no effect..any suggestions???

have you tried the fuel filter, you might have a blocked injector or it might be the idle stepper motor or the fuel pressure regulator. tell me when you replaced the spark plugs and also the ht leads. yours is a mpi so it might have one injector blocked. let me know more info and il try and help.

the fuel filter,plugs,ht leads are all fine...is there anyway i could check the fuel injectors myself or do i have to take it to someone...something else , could it be some major leak in the fuel pipes with air in them as someone suggested? and how do i check it?
