my punto is drinking fuel very badly.. 20 pound of fuel 10 to 15 miles....

anyone had is happen to them it was running ok 1 week (£20 to about 200 miles..) then now it goes nowere. i have checked for leak time after time and nothing.

the cars had.
new alternater
new water pump
new brake pipe
new air filter and housing
new head plus gaskets, bolts and belts
new back boxs (from cat)
new fuel filter
new fuel pump

there maybe a hole in the fexi in the exhaust (before cat) i will be doing this soon just to rule it out...

so any ideas??

flexi won't effect it at all. To be using it that fast it has to be leaking. You won't spot a leak as it evapourates too fast to detect. Run the car and check the fuel filter see if the joins get wet (most common place) Fuel pump I don't know where it is but again run the car and smell near it. If you smell petrol it's leaking. Follow the fuel lines along if they are both fine.

Either way you need the car running to detect it.

o and theres also abit of black smoke from the exhaust dose that help?

could be the MAP sensor

definitely a fuel leak; at that rate you should at least be able to smell it; fuel filter is commonest place also rubber tubes on throttle body.....

hey just been out to it did them smell test all the wa along the system and nothing im going to go check the map sensor and lambda sensor. i have a extra throttle body i can put on. do you think its worth a try?

Cam belt jumped a notch or 3.

sorted MAP sensor. havnt taken it on a long run yet but it should be ok will let you know how it goes.

When the lambda is faulty the engine will run a rich mixture - cold engine mode - hammers the mpg figures.
