Going in a stright line, slight breeze, 60mph, a few strange noises, wearing noise from gears, slight sqeal from front.

62mph, the car's steering goes VERY light and not much turning from the wheel, Next thing i notice is that the car starts swerving left and right (only slightly) but enough to couse a problem :(

Felt like the wind was pushing the car over lol, only 5mph side winds though :p

Rear suspension is NEW
Front looks worse than the back did but Kwick Fit (whom i'll NEVER use again) said back was MOT fail and front was Good

Front discs have a grove in them where i didnt remove rust around the outer edges when i replaced from pads.

Rear brakes and good but due a change
Wheels are good
balenced etc

Any Ideas?

local garage confirmed what i thought...

Whole front suspension is at fault & head gasket is leaking, coolent is going bad, water pump on the way out, fuel lines are a block somewhere (most likely at the fuel filter)

Front suspension, shocks are bad front right,
track rods on front left are shot (bushes)
the rest is just corroded (n)

Garage said you may as well bin it due to cost:value

However, i have some of these parts already as i thought they were going so im gonna fix it up in July(y)

That sure sucks dude. Good job you didn't crash (y)

Kwik Fit are just morons. Along with a few garages around here I know...
If your planning on doing the work yourself be ready for a nice chunk :bang: and :bang:! Or at least that's what I prepare for :p

Take your time and do everything that looks less than ideal. You could even consider taking out the engine/box lump and making sure there's no hidden rust. Jack the car up high and engine can be dropped down onto a truck - no need for a crane.

Before you start have a good look around the back wheel arches. Mine had an advisory on last years MOT. I've just had welding done on RHS above the shock mount. Rust had gone around the edge of the boot floor where it turns up to the wheel arch. Worryingly its also where the seat belt mount sits.

The guy who did the welding (fab job with oxy acetylene torch) says he thinks mud trapped by the fuel filler pipes had started the rot.

cheers for all your posts.
I dont many more tools other than a set of sprockets, scewdriver, a Jack and two axle stands & a really big hammer.

So it will be interesting to see how it goes

Rust is also present on rear wheel arch under the paint but it's nothing to worry about. the rust proof coat on the bottom is rusted (left side) - which after i treated, it went blacker than the black paint :p

Fuel filter is still rusted in place, there is no cover to it so i can only presume this was lost by previous owner. As a result i have two fuel filters on my car, one not conected but im sure you can imagine how it looks:p

The only thing better than a big hammer is another big hammer. (y)

On the rust - Get the wheel off and have a really good dig around. If it's sound you cant do any harm, but any soft spots will have to be investigated. Afterwards touch up the underseal.
